No Video, I do have sound.
I am running 5.02 fresh install on a Dell 9300 with current Nvidia drivers. 6800go card. windows XP SP2 all the latest patches. Nvidia Bronze DVD decoder. I cannot get video to work. I am running in 32bit mode. I have tried to uncheck the post processing. if I check the post processing I dont get sound. I do see data being xfer'd in the meter. I have tried to set it to fill, source etc. I can see video on main box but not on the placeshifter client.
any great ideas? Thanks Dave Packham new owner

I had similar situation, but I have dual displays (two monitors) I did open my window on the second monitor and it did not work, but when I moved that window to my primary didplay it started to work and I can view video with sound. Maybe your video display is not a primary one?
Just a suggestion. Chris

No video or sound for me. I was not surprised with the video as my server is only an AthlonXP 2000. But--I thought I would at least be able to use this for m MP3's. I get the same results though as if I were trying to play video...black screen and the time bar reads 00 and doesn't move. The wierd thing is I can use the webserver and stream mp3's just fine so I would think it should work in the placeshifter--even with my AthlonXP 2000...

What version of Nvidia DVD Decoder are you guys using? I had major problems with the latest release "1.02-196". So i reverted back to "1.02-185" which can be found here http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/d...M_1.02-185.exe
Also I have had problems with Nvidia's audio decoder so u may want to try AC3Filter. Let me know how it turns out. Miller Oops I see this is for Placeshifter. Havent used it so this info may be no good. Sorry. Last edited by millers_35; 05-11-2006 at 07:31 AM. |

So far, I only know of a few issues that could cause a lack of video on the Placeshifter client, a couple of which were mentioned above:

would the servers CPU power have anything to do with the ability to transcode and play back the music files?? As I mentioned above--I can't even listen to my MP3's. It never starts. Timebar just reads 00:00 and sits there. I even tried dropping the transcoding to 128kbs but it still did the same thing. I can stream by the webserver so I figure I should at least be able to stream them using the placeshifter...
Any thoughts? And-what would be the minimum CPU for transcoding video? A cheap upgrade is in order I think. Thanks JUC

I have a Celeron 2000 and PS works quite well for me over my local network via WLAN after lowering the bitrate.

Try this, it worked GREAT for me.
I was having trouble with Streaming videos as are many people. I tried different settings in the PlaceShifter Client with no luck. Then, just for the heck of it I installed the Client on a different machine (XPpro). It worked GREAT. So then I went back to the original machine (Win98se). I updated to the latest DirectX, and WaLa, it works great now. I recommend considering updating your directx and see if that helps.

update: all is working fine now. For some dumb reason I was not running the most current version of placeshifter (i think i was still running 5.0 or somthing). Upgraded to the current one and it works much better than I thought it would!! Great.
Thanks Juc

Do you mean the Placeshifter version didn't match the server installation, or that both were older versions?

I'm running 5.01 on my server. I'm not exactly sure what the placeshifter was running at--its possible that I was using an earlier beta version of the placeshifter even (it didn't have the status window showing the transcoding info--that's what clued me in). Regardless, I updated the placeshifter to the current version and am still using 5.01 and all is working great.
