I imaged the HTPC last night and then tried these. They show promise, but were definitely buggy for me. The UI was slow to respond to changes and sometimes it seemed settings I set, would revert (Tray Icon checkmark). Smart" and "Smarter" still seemed to have problems, where as "Automatic" worked well...as usual. The Desktop adjustments worked fine, but the video adjustments seemed way to course and out of whack. Color Temp worked, but anything other than 9500K or "No Temp" made things way to red. Noise and Edge Enhancement did change the picture, but it didn't look for the better, to me. "Apply To All Video Technologies" over-rides the nVIDIA decoder sliders (makes sense) but the decoder offers better adjustment (I'm on a Sceptre 37" LCD via DVI, so I have to make all adjustments except Contrast, with the Graphics or Decoder). Pixel Adaptive wouldn't stick, sometimes it would revert to "VMR Default". 91.31 is out.

I installed the beta drivers and the newer version of PureVideo a few days ago. I've had stuttering problems ever since. They were really bad when I used the new "Smarter" setting, but its still pretty bad with the rest of them too.

Has anyone else had problems like that with the new drivers? I'm going to roll back to the old drivers tonight. Hopefully that will fix things.

Smart has never worked well for *All* content (DVD's play fine with it, some TV stutters). TBS and TNT, analog, display a bad stutter. This was talked about on AVS when .196 came out. I think it's more the decoder than the VGA driver. Smarter didn't look any better...but I only played with it for a few hours.

It's basically a sharpness control.

i just realized my 6800gt doesn't do dxva acceleration. damn false nvidia marketing...

anyways...

the post processing options still work, including "edge enhancement" (basically sharpness, although it tries to only sharpen edges/lines so as to not increase noise for the rest of the image).

i have been getting great quality and no stuttering. Better than ever.

I wonder if I am missing out by having a 6800? do i lose visual quality or is it just acceleration (lower cpu usage)?

DXVA works fine on 6800s (I should know).

WM9 accelleration is broken on the 6800s and H.264 accelleration was not offered.

My 6800 works great. Rumour has it the 7 series is even better, but I think you'd need to go to a 7600 at mimimum to see any advantage.

I wouldn't upgrade until the HDMI thing shakes out.

That's the latest decoder. Most of this discussion is about the nVidia Forcewar 90 Graphics drivers, which make up another part of the "PureVideo" package.

Thanks I thought I read that there was a 4.0-196, must have been a typo.

The decoder version is 4.xx, but the "package" is 1.xx.

The history is there was nVDVD 2.x, and then a beta of the 3.x decoders. And then when they were initially released (via Theatertek) they were version 4.x (which is the "PureVideo" version).

When those 4.x decoders were packaged as a separate product, they were given the 1.xx nomenclature, just to make things confusing I think

If you search for nvviddec.ax and look at the version of the file, you'll see that the 1.02-196 decoders install the 4.02.196 (displayed as 0402.196.0.0) version of the decoders.

Since upgrading to this beta I've noticed severe stair-stepping on animation, tearing, and pixelation. Played with a few settings to no avail. I backed out to 84.21 and the pic cleans right up Oh well. Better luck next release I guess.

AtariJeff-

Exact same problems and rolling back fixed them for me too. It appears there are some rather serious problems with this driver, which isn't terribly surprising since its just a beta.

I was using .28 Let us know how .31 turns out. Anyone tried the "Classic" control panel with these? Are the same options available?

Just for a laugh (!) I looked at Nvidias purevideo page to see what was supported by what... Boy are all those model numbers confusing!

I noticed a playback problem too and rolled back. It was a problem I used to have a long time ago when there was a bug in Sage that made a frame play kinda out of sync every minute or couple of minutes. I think it was the same thing that used to happen to me where the video decoder would slowly degrade while the Sage UI was running until eventually it would error on playback and you'd have to restart the interface. I didn't keep it running long enough to see if that would happen.

.31 is better than .28 for sure but im not sure if it is Gold. At least some of my settings persist now. There was a problem with it trying configure displays as HDTV and remembering settings from session to session.

Im runnning 91.33 release version now. Recently I switched back to 720p to try out some different render settings. Anyway, I still get a bunch of problems with the overscan settings. Sometimes its perfect, then if I change a setting or the monitor times out and I wake it up it seems to zoom in and clip off about an inch all the way around my screen, I can't see anything around the edges but the top of the task bar. Arghhh. It used to be that I could toggle between different overscan settings and it would start working again but now its seems to be stuck. I went back to 1080p and its doing the same thing there. Anybody else having this problem? Maybe a reboot will help, but the sage is recording for another 2 and half hours.

So are you guys seeing any issues on playback with 91.31 drivers? I am getting a weird effect once in a while, and I am not really sure how to describe it.. sort of alike a shadow, if there is a person on screen, a shadow image of them will be offset left or right about 100-200 pixels, very faint, and seems to happen only very rarely and only for a split second...

Ideas? Also using the latest 223 purevideo, on a 7800GTX board.
