And then when you went to install it, it took your license key without issue? Bud? The trial was available, it is the retail update you need to upgrade your licensed copy.

Have fun Pal.

changing settings

Ok, I now have the Nvidia decoder installed and sage using it, so where do I change any settings? I have an nvidia icon in the system tray when sage runs, I can select 'about' or 'properties', but properties doesnt do anything. Am I looking in the wrong place? Cant see anything in the control panel or start menu, and the other nvidia icon in the system tray just adjusts the screen size etc.

I found the easiest way to change the settings is to use the RadLight Filter Manager. Find it at: http://www.radlight.org/products/fil...lfm_bin1_4.zip Launch the program, go to DirectShow Filters, then the NVidia Video Decoder, select then hit properties. You can also adjust the audio there too.

When you choose the decoder by name in Sage you can't access the tray icon. It's been like that as long as I can remember.

If it's the default decoder for windows just playback a video in media player and you can access the tray icon or you can select it as default in Sage instead of by name.

fyi, the trial *will* stop working in 30 days. It wont tell you either. You will get directx errors, that seem unrelated to the problem.

My experience is that NVidia makes you pay for major releases, point releases are free, but then there aren't any point releases....

I've only been using the Nvidia codec for 1.5 years, but I've upgraded everytime they've released a new version and they've all been free so far.

Is that the original codec or the second one the released? I started with the original and they never updated it. I didn't pay for the second one, since I bought TheatreTek

I don't know what version the "original" one you're talking about was. I started with v1.00.67. and just installed v1.02.223 today without any problem.

The second version is the one Nvidia re-engineered for Pure Video

All I know is Nvidia sent me a letter via USPS that I would need to pay to upgrade the 1.00.58 version (which was never updated, released Nov 2004), to the Pure Video version (there so called version 2)

If you bought the nVidia decoder from somewhere other than the nVidia website that would be a "OEM" version and your vendor would provide the update. I had bought my version 1.00.58 from PC Alchemy and received my free update to the latest version from them.

Gerry

EDIT: Corrected terminology.

Bought it direct from Nvidia.

When I bought a bundle at PC Alchemy, it was OEM. I ended up wasting 50 bucks buying the *retail* version from Nvidia, only to discover it won't downmix outside of WMP/MCE.. Bummer! To upgrade my Nvidia platinum, I use retail. To upgrade PC Alchemy, I use OEM.

Here is what I know. I bought the decoder off the nvidia website about 8 months ago. I have been upgrading my original purchased version successfully with the trial versions posed on the nvidia website by entering my activation code along with the contact and billing info I used to buy the decoder. This has worked up till version this version 1.02-223 which now asks for Distributor: Product Type: and Product Code:. These I didn't have and couldn't find.

Luckily the forums rescued me again. Thanks to the FTP link provided by bcjenkins I was able to download the RETAIL version which did not ask for the product codes, just the activation codes I recieved when ordering from nvidia.

All is good now.

If it asks for Distributor then it is an OEM version. Maybe it was linked there by mistake.
