Let me see if I understand this right... I want to make sure I will benefit before I switch over.

The current comskip (.txt) support in SageTV fails to work quite right with HDTV files since it doesn't know about the frame rate? And the new .edl format and STVI fixes that? But there is no .ts support yet?

Man, no wonder commercial skipping has always seemed off. I ONLY record .ts files with SageTV.

Thanks for setting me straight if I am misunderstanding things.

horseflesh,
You are mostly correct. Have you ever seen commercial skipping work (display bars) at all with a .ts file with the old stvi? From my investigation of the code, it should not work at all...and didn't for me with the limited testing I did (I switched to program streams because of this and havent seen any drawbacks so far).

Not exactly--I am using SageMC which I guess has some kind of similar functionality. Skipping works on .ts files except the time calcs are off.

Has anyone else tried this Import with SageMC? I tried it with the latest dev build and I lost commercial skipping altogether. I reverted back to a backup and my skipping was back but alas it doesn't work well with my HD recordings. The timing is off. I simply renamed the file from an STV extension to an XML extension(newer SageMC uses XML). Not sure if this is correct or even advisable but in any case it didn't work.

Anyone care to port it over as I would really like to try this out. Unfortunately I have no programming/coding skills...

Thanks,

Kevin

flachbar is going to add it in a future (I'm hoping the next) version. I've manually added it to the latest version including removing the old version it comes with. I've had some problems with it being inconsistent, but I think I've got it now. I want to play with it for a day or so and if it continues to work I'll post it in the development thread tomorrow.

since this import no longer supports the txt files anymore is there an easy way to mass convert all my txt SA files over to edl without rescanning everything?

That's a good point, ToxMox ... I just thought about, and I might be able to add functionality (in SageMC ) so that it will use either .txt or .edl, whichever file is available.

Unfortunately I don't use SageMC so I'm still hoping for a way to mass batch them.
If possible I'd like to avoid having to reanalyze 300+ hours of recordings.

Sorry to be impatient, but since I can't seem to get it to work stably, any ideas when you might be releasing it? In case you can't tell, I'm really looking forward to it. In my situation, it works great when it works.

I'll write a quick util that will do that. I'll post it here later today. (fingers crossed)

I really can't tell, but it should be within the next 2 weeks ...

Great. Really looking forward to seeing it. I want to compare it to what I did to see if I can find the bug. I'm sure yours will work, but that bug is really bothering me.

Ha, I just deleted all my txt files. It took about a day to create all the edl files but its done now. I set up SA to create both txt and edl in case something went wrong. Then to test this new import, after all of my videos were rescanned I changed SA to just do edl's. The import worked fine so I left it alone. The only problem is that I didn't correctly change Dirmon2 to work with edl's. I had "where txt or edl does not exist". Since I stopped creating txt files, it just kept rescanning all the new recordings. I didn't realize it for a day or so, but there was no harm done. It also seemed like SA was faster after re-registering it.

Can't download file

Okay.. what is it about this file that prevents me from getting it? I've tried with IE6, IE7, FF.. from 2 different machines.. I get a 404 whenever I try to get it!

Is it mirrored someplace I can get it? I've been trying...

Thanks!

It downloaded just fine for me, so I've mirrored it here for you:

Dunno, I just clicked on your link and it gave me the save dialog box. Seems to work. maybe you have a popup blocker, or some security zone settings messing up things

If I load this stvi file into my current stv will it over-write the original comskip that is part of that stv, or will I need to start over from default and rebuild the stv with all the imports I use?

If I could make a feature request...

Would it be possible to reduce (increase?) the alpha on the commercial markers? I did that on neilm's comskip import and found it much more aestetically pleasing to have the commercial markers alpha blended instead of 100% opaque.
