The Page-Up and Page-Down buttons on the remote control the AR of HD and SD respectively.

Note that you have to be in a mode for which they are applicable for them to work.

It's burried in a menu somewhere but I think I found a note on the OSD that mentioned that.

OK... me again...

Now the sound has died on the 211

I swapped cables around between receivers to confirm that it is not an encoder or playback issue.

I checked the menus and found nothing. Since I recently played with the aspect ration settings, I tried all of those settings and I also tried all of the different types of content HD, SD, sattelite and OTA... all no sound...

any thoughts... I'm going to go peruse the manual...

Reboot it, it doesn't seem like the most robust box.

Do you mean mine specifically or the 211 in general? If rebooting doesn't take care of it, maybe I'll try to have it exchanged.

In general, I know mine's a bit flaky. Especailly if I leave it on an OTA station.

Well, power cycling did not seem to work, but I pulled the plug on the sucker and it seems to be fixed.

Sad to hear that this box is not so solid. I'd hate to invest the $$$ in having the R5000 mod. Is there a better HD box?

Did you actually reboot it? Because pressing the power button (on the box or remoted) doesn't actually power cycle it. You've got to hold the power button on the front panel until it reboots (like 5-10 seconds).

It kind of depends on what you're doing. I've only had the sound go away once, (well once that wasn't just me being stupid and muting it). I've had the video decoder lock up though (for lack of a better explanation) but that seems to only happen with the OTA channels, if I leave it on a local.

Bone head question about to be asked...

So are there PCI cards that do the function of a satellite receiver? Or are the PCI receiver cards out there but are cost prohibitive to the majority of people? Or is Sage not programmed to recognize the PCI receiver cards? I'm aware of a cable card but from what I've been reading on this site those are on their way out.

I'm a few weeks out from moving to a new house that is already wired up for satellite so I'll be following the "how to" of this thread closely. I am currently using cable and I've wanted to break away but satellite seems much more complicated.

Good news:

Yes, there are pci cards that work as a sat receiver. Sage does not have native support but theres a plugin somewhere that works with MyTheatre, or something another.

Bad news:

There are no cards out there that support encrpyted channels, ie with a card reader. So you can get FTA (in the clear) channels only.

For Hi-def sat, your best option (apparently) is with an r5000. Its not quite the only one though.

EDIT: From reading your posts you might be confusing CableCard with PCI Cards. There are no PCI card readers for sat or cable, atleast none that are legal in north america. I think there are some that work with european systems

Tuning OTA subchannels on Dish 211

Guys,

Decided to replace my two remaining 311 (SD) boxes with 2 more 211(HD) boxes so I'll eliminate a channel lineup and get ready for more HD capture in the near future . My market does not have HD locals on dish, so I want to use my antenna hookup to tune the HD locals via OTA. How do I get it to make the channel change to xx.x? I assume I need to add the "." to the IR and then do something to both the channel line up in SAGE as well as something in the 211 setup, but I am really not sure.

I use a USB-UIRT if that matters.

If this works well, I'll get to drop my SD local package and save $5 / month.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Why not just get an ATSC tuner for OTAs, no point taking up a sat box with locals.

I have an ATSC110 and an HDHR for 3 OTA tuners, but I still occasionally get conflicts with padding added onto each end of most shows.

Besides... it should just work...

OK I've looked all over for information on the R5000 and can't find their web site. Are they no more?

Very possible.....I'm glad you found the info you needed! I'm holding out for the Hauppauge solution rather than spending the 500 bucks (and having to switch to dish) to do this!

$550 is a lot of money just for one tuner; I agree. What is the hauppauge solution?
