HELP!!

I'm away from my HTPC - sitting in pathology class (i'm in med school). I need to record House tonight! I am VNCed into the computer, but for I can't see the sage screen b/c i have the 3d/vmr9 turned on. When I have it off, i can see fine in VNC.

I need somebody to walk me through key strokes to turn it off - i.e. - hit down 3 times, hit left 1 etc..... OR - is there a command line switch to turn it off?

Thanks,
Ryan

Sorry I can't help on the VNC front but sounds like you have an excellent reason to use neilm's Sage webserver if you want to set up recordings from anywhere.

Which VNC are you using? Ultra?

That is a side affect if vmr9 and DirectX. Most remote control programs can not screen scrape the DirectX information, it is not available to the windows video buffer area. PCAnywhere, Remote Administrator, VNC and other have this problem. Terminal Services/Remote Desktop, both Microsoft, are the only programs I know of at this time that can remote control DirectX screens properly. This should change soon, if it is not already available, because the Windows Vista Desktop can be 100% DirectX which means black screens if you do not update remote software.

Yep - ultravnc.

Nobody knows the proper Up Down Left Right combos?

P.S. Reminds me of my old Contra days - Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A B A Select Start

log in via vnc. Connect to your router. Open the placeshifter port to your machine. Login via placeshifter from work and click record from there.

I loved contra!

Would be easier to just install neilm's webserver via vnc. Theres only a couple of changes you need to make to the sage.properties file, restart sage then access it via the browser over vnc. Make the required changes to the firewall at a later date so you can access directly by browser next time.

Utra VNC works fine for me with Full Screen Exclusive VMR9... (I do not have the 'video mirror driver' installed) This could be graphics-card-dependant though.

Alternatively if it is the full-screen bit that is causing a problem for VNC, do: CTRL-SHIFT-F to toggle back to a windowed Sage...

Actually, I think the easiest thing to do would be to just get up and leave the class, go home, and set up the recording there... because you're obviously paying attention!

Same here, but I think I do have the video mirror driver installed. Not 100% certain though.

You might alter sageclient.properties, such as:

ui/accelerated_rendering=false
videoframe/use_overlay=true
videoframe/use_vmr=false

and then restart the ui, although I'm not sure if that would work or not. Does anyone else know if those are the right properties?

The problem with the button presses is that I don't know if Sage starts at a default position, or at the last screen/cursor position.

ok question - I just installed the webserver - seemed pretty simple.

How do i connect to it when my computer is behind a router.

I know how to open up ports..do i need to do that for 8080..

So in my web browser do i need to put in WAN:LAN:8080/sage/Home ?

No, set up your router to do a port forward to the computer which is running the web server. (i.e. forward 8080 [if that's your web service's port] to 192.168.1.100 [if that is the local IP address of the server]).

Then you can just hit your WAN IP address with the port number appended. (i.e. 24.24.24.24:8080)

K - here is my setup
http://69.xxx.21.xxx:8080/sage/home
- get a timeout error
8080 is forwarded

Shouldn't this work from IE on the local machine if I use it w/ VNC?
local:8080/sage/home
- i just get an "unavailable page" error

How do i check to make sure the webserver is functioning?

If you can't reach it from the local machine, something is definitely amiss. Double check the web server configuration and make sure it is set to run on port 8080. Also, at least on my system, the path is case sensitive. Try this link:

http://localhost:8080/sage/Home/

EDIT: Just checked my own system, and I lied. It's not case sensitive.

The webserver was. def. a great addition. Like you I had to add a last minute recording on several occasions..

Only thing lacking in the webserver is an easy way to look up new shows.
