Lightbulb Assign Custom Names to Favorites

I found a way to get around the unfriendly names given to some internet radio stations when added to the favorites. This also works if you just want to customize the name of any of the favorites.
  • Open the following file where slimserver was installed, with Wordpad:
    \Program Files\SlimServer\server\slimserver.pref
  • Search for the section labeled favorite_titles:.
  • Change the text for any titles you wish
  • Save the file
  • Restart the SlimServer

Sorry Michael, I made a mistake. Put wrong jar file in zip. Please try again. I replaced the attachment in the original post with the correct one.

Yes that would work. But you have to revisit this file whenever you add a new favorite. It would have been nice to have a function on the slimserver's command line interface to set/change the name of a favorite, so we would add this to slimplayer.

thanks for the tip.

Thanks Chris! I am confirming that it works correctly with the slimserver username and password. Below, you mentioned that local artwork will not show up anymore. Does this mean when I play my mp3s and WMA's, the ID3 tag info (album picture, artist name, song title) will no longer be displayed in Slimplayer? If so, hopefully you'll figure out a way around that limitation..

Thanks again for all your hard work!

...By enabling user/password on slimserver fetching the local artwork from slimserver will not work (even with this patch in place). This is because the STV code image widgets can render urls, but don't use authentication. This is fine for the artist info and artist photo (they come from the internet), but the album art comes from slimserver and will not work. I'm thinking about a solution for this.

Slim Player Rocks!

Hey Chris, I've been using Slim Player to play all my local mp3, flac, wma, etc... I'm not sure I understand what limitation you were talking about when having password protection enabled in Slimserver because I am getting artist picture and song info. Whatever limitation you were speaking of doesnt make any difference to me at all

I LOVE SLIMPLAYER!!

Hi Michael,

About the limitation: when you have slimserver password protection turned on, you won't get album artwork showing when you select show track info on the Now Playing screen.
This does not affect the artist info, which is fetched by slimplayer itself from the internet.

Great to hear you like Slim Player that much.

SlimPlayer Radio - Low Volume

Hello - I have the latest version of the player working but it seems that the volume is lower than when I watch TV on Sage. Any suggestions?

Also - still wondering if there is any way to listen to many of the stations in Los Angeles as many of them in the middle of the dial are encoded such that you have to listen to them from the internet (such as 104.3, 103.5, 101.3, etc).

EDITED: Problem/Suggestion: (problem) In the Now Playing where it provides a description, I find that it gets updated before the song is over. Also, in the main playlist screen a picture of the artist comes up before the song is over (also when the Now Playing is updated) but on the left side it still shows the current song playing (even though the thumbnail is updated prematurely along with the Now Playing). (suggestion) It would be neat if there would be a way to "freeze" the updating of the Now Playing when reading it because if I want to read all of it and it is really long, it may advance when the next song comes on even though I want to read all of it.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, when you're playing Slimplayer, go to the Slimserver web based console (double-click the slimserver icon in Windows system tray) and in the configuration, you can turn up the volume. From then on, the volume will stay whereever you put it.

As far as listening to Internet radio stations from los angles, you can browse by city via "Navigate" menu. Just look for it under Slimdevice picks!

Have fun

Besides SlimDevices Picks you will find an even larger number of stations at

RadioGuide by RadioTime
-Browse By Location
--North America
---United States
----California
-----Los Angelos

I noticed the first 2, but not 101.3

There are two more ways to find out if what you are looking for is available.

1) Do a search in slimserver under "shoutcast stations" for "101.3". This is the result:

The Best Mix 101.3 KATY!

La Estacion 101.3

Radio F.M. Magica - 101.3 Mhz - Mercedes BA

WQAR - Star 101.3 Malta

2) Do a google search to see if the stations you're looking for is even offered on the Internet. Maybe go to their website and see if they offer it. If they offer it via Internet, then you can probably manually enter it into slimserver.

When I click on RadioTime to try and do a search I get this error:

There was an error loading the remote feed for RadioTime: (Failed to connect to http://opml.radiotime.com/Index.aspx (Couldn't resolve IP address for: opml.radiotime.com) )

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mike

Has this issue been resolved or is there a workaround? I'd really like to try this out, but the I am not allowed to switch from SageMC.

I had that problem after I had created a network bridge on my server (where slimServer was installed) between the 2 network interfaces. SoftSqueeze had the same problem. I assumed that was creating some DNS lookup problem. I removed the bridge and rebooted, problem solved for me. Don't know if that info will help you.

You mean a SageMC import? Just need to replace the graphics, handle some random details and build the import file. I have been using it quite a bit. Hopefully an initial version will be out before too long here.

Again, have no idea if its feasible or possible, but figured I would ask since you are digging around the code making the MC import. I know my rear projection TV would really like it (no burn in!).
