Just curious, I'm about due for a complete reload of my HDTV system and was wondering if on the initial install on a clean system I can just load V. 6 with the new license key or do I have to start with the V. 4 my original license was for.
Sorry ef this has been asked and answered already but too many pages to read every post on this new version. Oswulf |

its answered in both the thread about licencing and another thread.
A clean v6 install will accept a v4 licence and give you a 15 day trial.

OK, before I install the beta I have a question I've not seen a direct answer to and it's important to me to know.
On Ver. 5 according to George it was not capable of EPG data on sub channels other than say 22.1. 22.2 and others would not show any guide data and you had to use the xmltv import to get that data. George said this would be fixed in the next version. So, is it fixed. Do you get the builtin EPG data on ALL the sub channels or do you still need to use xmltv for it? I ask this because all I've seen is reports of not getting some of the sub channels, but nobody has said and the release notes do not address whether this bug/programming oversight has been fixed yet. |

I appear to have guide data on 7.3. Sage found all the subchannels I know of, a couple of them have sketchy data, but that's probably due to sketch PSIP info.

Hey Folks - just thought I would add my useless 2 cents (maybe 3) about a couple things.... A) I actually prefer the standard SageTV interface OVER MicroSoft Media Center - that thing is just TOO dang busy - I prefer the simplicity of SageTV's B) Compared to what has to be spent on MS Media Center as far as accessories and such to get the flexibility that SageTV offers - I will gladly pay an upgrade fee for SageTV to get new features and to keep advancing the product C) Oh yeah - and I like that I don't have to spend hours relearning the SageTV Interface with every release (unlike MicroSoft) D) I totally agree that Sage could spend a little more time and effort improving their Audio/Music side of things - Having that little MVP unit stream ALL my media is just cool as it can get. It is a shame the Sage software falls a little short on the Music side if things (and it would be great if SageTV could stream internet audio from ShoutCast and such - which the Hauppauge software for the MVP unit does do).
But, I must say - WAY TO GO SAGETV - I'll spend my money on your media products over getting more MicroSoft folks rich ANY DAY!!! Thanks for a GREAT product!!!!! |

With v6 I am now getting the Internet downloaded program guide and the off air guide for all my channels with the following exceptions:
One sub channel (7.3) is new and does not have a zap2it ID number. The station is not sending out any program data. With no off air data and no Zap2it ID I get nothing - zip. I have two tuner cards so it appears twice in the program guide. One station (14.1) simulcasts the analog programming on the digital station. The digital station does not have a separate Zap2it ID number. I do get downloaded program data with v6. This bug has been fixed. Without a separate ID number it appears twice in the program guide. It appears once for each of my digital cards. This has not been fixed. The stations not in my local viewing area had only a few hours of guide data that was received from the station. I was able to removed the station and manually reentered it with the ID number obtained from the Zap2it site. They then had downloaded program data. The program data for WMPT channel 22.2, 22.3, 22.4, 22.5 does not match what is actually tuned. This is because twice a day WMPT changes their program stream data. I am working with Sage support to resolve this issue. You can get 22.3, 22.4 to match the guide by off setting the Zap2it number by one channel, if it is not in your local viewing area. If it is in your local area you may not get the third dialog box to enter the zap2it number. Channels 22.2 and 22.5 need to wait until we can get a patch. Remember to get the off air program data you have to tune the station. If you use the off air data the guide will empty until you tune the station. Quote:

Thanks for the fast reply. My spam filter must have blocked the email they sent out to announce version 6 or I would have been all over the discounted price. I'm surprised the price jumped $10 while its still in beta. I would think that the discount would remain until they release the non-beta version of 6.

I'm not convinced there was an email, I suspect beta stuff just gets put on the beta forum...

I don't think there was a beta email notice either since this is a public beta. Like most people, I just checked this beta forum daily to see when the new betas are out. I'm glad I bought it the first day for $30, although I would've paid $40 since this is the first time I paid for an upgrade fee. I bought SageTV when it was at v2.
Maybe there should be a beta newsletter for SageTV. Opus4 said this forum has an RSS feed but currently not setup or running.

Since the price jumped up, I will just wait until version 6 comes out of beta. I'll let you lucky dogs who got the $10 discount find the bugs for me
Narflex, you might want to update the 1st post to reflect the correct pricing, because it might throw others off like it did me.

Upgrade..completly lost?
I am so sorry if this has been clarified somewhere else. I have been reading this thread for about 2 hours now and can't figure out what is going on.
I bought version 5.0.4 (I think) on 7/7/06. I've been using SageTV for 4 months to the day. Do I need to pay for version 6? I have read no, 5.0.4 get V6 for free, then later on it seems I read it's $39.99, but a discount was available before Nov. 1st. One last question, is V6 still beta? I can't figure that out either. Looks like I can buy the upgrade here: http://store.sagetv.com/Merchant2/me...t_Code=STV6UPG No where on that page does it say a beta, but I think I keep reading it's still beta. I never received an e-mail about version announcments, upgrades, discounts if they exsisted or not. I know I should, but I just cannot keep up with the threads. I just do not have time to read 100's of posts everyday. I'd like to spend some of my time watching TV Thanks & sorry for the dumb questions, Dana |
