Steve, what home automation are you running? Sounds like you and I may have had similar backgrounds. I was a hardcore Solaris admin / integrator / systems architect / nerd / consultant / whatever for many many years. Left that to get in the real estate game.

I'm really looking to get connected with someone that's got an enjoyable, usable, and mostly stable system of HA that includes media distribution (live tv, pvr, dvd, mp3, internet streaming), lighting control, security and fire, hvac, and is all easily controlled with relatively inexpensive in-wall lcd's Is that too much to ask for?

Chris

It's really helpful getting all the feedback on XP stability as a dedicated PVR. Thanks!

Is there a FAQ/wiki on adding all the necessary plugins for Sage to get DVD ripping, IMDB lookup, Internet radio streaming, IR scripting and such all integrated? I need to be able to have IR button presses call some Perl scripts to control other things. Also, I need to have scripts called when other events happen (like system power off/on, sleep, etc...). Mainly, I need to control a Denon receiver (serial) and a couple DirecTV H20 boxes (via USB to serial dongle). Is the H20 supported out-of-the-box by Sage?

I think the SageTV Customizations forum is the place where you find all the answers.

I spent years with DEC RSX-11, then VMS, then Ultrix on DEC Alphas (those 64 bit CPUs that are now coming into vogue), then Solaris. A lot of C and asm language for these, and many, many microprocessors.

Home automation: there's some sort of HA add-on for Sage but I haven't tried it. I've been using HomeSeer for years because it is versatile, has a nice web-server that allows .asp's and is not IIS or Apache). The majority of my system's functionality (as I discussed above) that's visible on the TV is from my own VB6 application. I can give you the guest login/URL if you PM me. This VB6's program output from the PC goes to AUX-in on my TV. Sage is on AUX-2.

www.homeseer.com is that product's web site.
