Is there a way to scrape imdb and generate the metadata files from within windows? The in-place gui to search imdb is great for all my existing content, but for new content it would be great if i could have a .properties file already there when sage sees a movie for the first time. There's a couple reasons for this. I've been having a hard time getting sage to reliably refresh the thumbnail from the old generated one to the new one from imdb. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it just requires a restart, and sometimes i have to rename all the files to get it to pick it up. I also have everything in my library twice, once separated into genres and once in just a huge continuos list. Having property files means i don't have to create the metadata twice. I know I could work around this by putting all new files into a temporary import directory, but doing it directly would be great.

There's an add on which does this already. The r/w meta data from jrekiwi.

I'm already a happy user of this add-on, which is why i posted in this thread. What I would like is a way to scrape imdb and generate metadata files automatically like the add-on does without first imported the video into sage so that the first time sage sees the video the metadata is already there.

Sorry I am a little cross eyed.. I thought I could have sworn this was in the web forum.. The plugin has the ability to get data for bulk airings. Does this not cover what you need?

Well, that would cover what I needed if it was for TV recordings, but I'm using it for imported movies. I encode all my DVDs to xvid so I can store them in a reasonable amount of drive space and browse through them all without getting up from the couch. As I explained before, sage actually has 2 copies of them in the library, so the direct writing to wiz.bin, while wonderful, doesn't completely do it for me, and, more importantly to me, sage does not seem to reliably pick up the new jpg to use as a thumnail unless i move/rename the movie so sage thinks it's new. I know that this is supposed to happen with periodic library refreshes or when sage (service and all) is restarted, but this is not happening reliably for me.

So, it would be great to use the scraper and file generation code outside of sage so that metadata is already present the very first time sage sees the movie.

Little fix to the download for no search button on the IMDB search results page with IMDB Search Interface 6.7. Not that I've needed it with the search changes in that version.

Can I view imported videos as SageTV Recordings?

I have installed version 2.1.9 of the Read and Write metadata files STVi.

I am not sure if I understand whether it is supposed to be able to bring (or display) the files from the "imported videos" folder in the SageTV Recordings menu. I am hoping that it does - in addition to all the other cool features.

I lost my wiz.bin which was two years old recently. I have hundreds of videos that are now "orphans" and can be viewed only via the imported videos menu - which cannot be described as an optimal solution.

All I want to do is to somehow bring them back as SageTV recordings.

Here's what I am doing with the metadata STVi

1. Installed both the IMdb search and the metadata STVi's
2. I configured the metadata options (kept the configurations at default)
3. I now see a whole bunch of .my and .properties files in my folder
4. These files don't have anything meaningful inside them - just the name of the file as the title. For example the file name that was created when an episode of Columbo was recorded was called: Columbo-ACaseofImmunity-3481436-0.mpg.
5. When I change the metadata title from Columbo-ACaseofImmunity-3481436-0 to A Case of Immunity - I am able to manually select an entry.
6. However none of this actually gets this file as a SageTV recording.

Please Help!!!

Galeo

Someone posted earlier in this thread about this, but I didn't see any responses...

When I go to imported videos, choose a video, IMDB lookup, IMDB results screen, then choose "save", it kicks me all the way back to the Sage main menu (the information *does* get saved).

Is this behavior expected, and if not what can I do about it?

I'm running the latest version of the import on Sage 6.2 but same happened with previous versions.

I thought I'd fixed that in version 2.1.3
I've just done a test and it takes me back to the Imported Videos folder I started from.

Can you just check the version of the import. It's displayed at the top of the panel at Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Metadata Options

Okay... I guess this is where I get to open my mouth and try to stuff my foot into it!

I *swear* I tried this before, in fact I built a new media PC about a month ago and thought I put the newest of everything on it.

But I basically started fresh, set Sage back to the default STV, extracted all the newest zip files for the imports I use (infopopup, IMDB search, and metadata), then imported them one at a time (in the order I just listed).

Worked perfectly on both clients and my server!

Thanks!

Resolved -- I saw in rereading (for the 3rd or 4th time!) that I had missed the fact that IMDB search must be installed before RW Metadata. Edited plugins.cfg to get the order right and now all is well .

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just tried to add use IMDB search to add .my files for my imported videos -- but there's no save option on the IMDB page?

I am entering IMDB search from the Video's menu item.
I stopped sage server before adding IMDB search so that the jar would be updated.
I've installed the latest of both IMDB search and RW Metadata.
I reinstalled all of my .stvi files (I love the bulk importer stvi!).
I'm running the latest sage (6.3.8).
I'm running dynamic menus (if it makes a difference).

Am I looking in the wrong place for the save option?

Thanks.

"my" data not showing

I have a bunch of Tv DVD burns that I have .my files for, some I created from text files, other I used the scrapper for, but none of them are coming up in the program info.

The Dvd burns are in the form of "name.divx" the my file is called "name.my" all in the same import folder.. what am I doing wrong?

I used them before in another stv and they worked, but I can not get them to work with this stvi

Try turning on "Always display .my files" under ".my File Reading" and see if that makes a difference.

When I do an IMDB update, the data at the movie database is imported and the jpg of the movie jacket is created, but sage never displays the movie jacket. It continues to display the default snapshot from some place in the mpg file. It does display the ones that I d/l'd a while back, but will not pick up new ones.

This may be a problem with 6.3.9. If so, let me know and I'll post this over in the beta news group.

I've tested here and it sure looks like a problem with 6.3.9

Looks like you have to do a manual refresh of the imported videos now for the jpg's to get picked up. I've done a bug submission for it, but I sure some corroborating evidence from additional bug submissions wouldn't hurt.

I have the latest Sage maint. release and latest of this stvi imported.
I have "Auto Save to DB from .my files" set to yes. I have removed my Imported Videos folder from Sage, renamed the actual folder and re-imported it into Sage so it will read it as new videos. When I try to do a search for files I have .my files for, it doesn't find them. It will only find them after I view video details. Is there any way for it to import the info from the .my files into DB when it imports the video and sees the corresponding .my file?
It works for properties files, so how come it doesn't for .my?

If not, what's the easiest way to batch create properties files from .my files?

Yes, it does the import of the .my when you view the video details.
Properties files are imported via the core when the video is imported.
I was going to add a function to do a mass import from .my files, but I haven't needed it, so I haven't done it. Wouldn't be too hard to do though.
