John,

Would you consider creating an stvi which would check the rating of the video in your .my/.properties/wiz.bin and invoke parental controls based on what levels are set? In particular, support for DVD folders and .my files seem to be lacking from built in mechanisms. It would be nice to create only one file instead of two.

Thanks for the consideration.

Call me thick, but I'm having trouble understanding what extra function you want.

Currently with this import if you are running SageTV version 6 you can
- either manually or automatically import the parental rating from a .my file
- manually edit the wiz.bin to set a rating
- when doing a save from IMDB it will set a parental rating if available
- or with SageTV version 6.1 you can set the parental rating by having a .properties file with a rating in it and removing and re-adding the import directory so that Sage will import it into the wiz.bin.

SageTV Parental Controls for imported videos (including ripped DVDs) works with all of these.

I am sorry, I wasn't able to validate the DVD playback option from the place shifter (parental control validation does not seem to be the first order of execution). I just confirmed it does work. (Thanks!) DVD folder support of a .properties file is broken and has been filed with support. So I guess the only thing I need to do is re-read the feature list and figure out how this works.

Thanks for explaining it so concisely.

Once I import the .my data to the wiz.bin, I can remove the .my files?

B, Once you've imported a .my file, the import doesn't read it anymore, unless you turn on Always Read .my Files. Because of the different sources of .my files it's really dependent on the content of your files as to whether it's OK to delete them.

The tags that this will import are:
overview
title
TVEpisode
ProdCode
TVOverview
TVYear
TVGenre
TVRating
TVExpandedRatings
actor
TVActors
TVProducer
TVDirector
TVGuestStar
TVCo-Starring
TVWriter
TVHost
TVRecurringRole
TVChoreographer
TVExecutiveProducer
TVLanguage
TVTagline
TVQuotes
TVTrivia

Ofer, probably best to ask over in the SageMC thread.

Updated the Download with a new version

(2.1.1)
- Fix writing and importing of multi-paragraph properties
- Added some more tags that will import from .my files

Fields should now be consistent across .my, .properties and wiz.bin. Previously you could end up with a different amount of data in a field depending on how it was created and processed ie: .properties parsing, IMDB creation, import .my file

Hi John,

I am using the latest RW (2.1.1) and I am still having issues with the Cast import into the Wiz DB using IMDB import.
I did an episode of STAR TREK TNG and the actors lines come out like so in the view details:
Patrick Stewart............Captain Jean-Luc Picard
Johnathon Frakes..........Commander William T. Riker
etc...

I have "Read .MY Files" set to "NO" and have even deleted both the .my file and properties file created by the IMDB import. So I know that the information is indeed in the Wiz DB. But if I search for Patrick or Stewart or Johnathon or Frakes... it doesn't show up.
I have some older ones I did a while ago (Can't remember what version)
but the actors are listed like so in the properties file:
Actor=Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, etc...
and these do show up when searching.

Also, is there a way to rescan these files? I had to take out the import directory and re-import it for it to rescan the metedata files and lost all the custom editting I did in the edit metedata...

Hi dvd_maniac,

I don't know what the issue could be. I've been doing searches almost constantly for the last week, as I documented a bug submission and making sure that info is consistent when saving from IMDB, importing from .my files and SageTV's parsing from .properties. The only issues I've had are with the one touch search.

There will be an update of Customize Search shortly that will include an STV fix for searching using the one touch search.

The IMDB save has been saving actor....role since 2.0.9, seemed a waste to have that data available, but not be able to search it. So I've been able to search it since then.

I believe that currently the .properties files are only parsed when a video is added to the system. That will happen by changing the file name, changing the directory either by renaming the directory or move the file to another directory, or by a remove/add of the import directory. If you have been editing the metadata you can do a replace of the .properties file and it will save your changes to it, so they will get picked up in the future.

I could have it update the .properties file automatically when you do a edit metadata save.

John

Hi John,

Sorry, I should have posted last night that it just took a while for it to show up in a search. Almost 1 hour after I imported from IMDB
But at least it worked.

Quote:

I would think that auto saving the metadata files after an edit would make sense. If you decide to do this.....Thanx

One more issue I came across...
I imported data from IMDB for Star trek Original series and have the metadata files for them. But somehow the title got out of whack.
the title in the wiz.bin and the properties files is:
Title=TV2/Scifi/Star Trek/Original/1/1x04 The Naked Time/The Naked Time: "Star Trek" The Naked Time
it should just be:
Title="Star Trek" The Naked Time

Why did the properties file include the path all of a sudden?

Here's what I get
Code:
Title="Star Trek" The Naked Time
Description=The crew is infected with a mysterious disease that removes people's emotional inhibitions to a dangerous degree.\n ----\nWhen Lieutenant Junior Grade Tormolen brings aboard an infection that killed the science team on Psi 2000, the crew of the Enterprise soon find themselves unable to control their most pre-dominant emotions. Soon the entire starship is in a shambles and plummeting toward the self destructing planet.\n\n
The path in the title field was something that I fixed back in 2.0.8, a resave from IMDB should fix it.

.my file import doesn't work

Hi John,

FYI.. I'm using 6.1.9 Sage

Your .my file feature is great, I've actually enabled it to output on each file so if the wiz db goes south. I have my show information.. The saving of IMDB also rocks!

However.. the .my file import doesn't seem to work, here's my file:
----------------------
title=Friends
TVEpisode=Pilot: The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate
TVOverview=Rachel runs from her wedding and meets the friends in the coffee place. Ross is depressed about his divorce but he still has a crush on Rachel.
overview=Rachel runs from her wedding and meets the friends in the coffee place. Ross is depressed about his divorce but he still has a crush on Rachel.
TVStartDate=5/6/04
TVStartTime=7:30 PM
TVEndTime=8:00 PM
TVManual=true
TVGenre=Comedy
TVOriginalAiringDate=9/22/94
TVChannelNumber=16
TVChannelName=WIVB
TVChannelDescription=16 WIVB

----------------------
It's "UNIX" based according to Ultra-Edit (/n at the end of the line).

However all it imports is:

1) Rachel runs from her wedding and meets the friends in the coffee place. Ross is depressed about his divorce but he still has a crush on Rachel.

2) "omedy" <- Yes it's missing the "C"

All other fields are blank, the Original Air Date doesn't even seem to be used. I looked at .properties however that doesn't seem to support Original Air Date?

Ben

Ben, I've updated the download with a fix for the missing first character on import of TVGenre. It's still the same version number.

It doesn't import the other date and channel information although it will display it. Does it need to be imported?

It would be nice to have the below info ....

title
TVEpisode
TVOriginalAiringDate
TVStartDate=
TVStartTime=
TVEndTime=

The Channel name would be nice, but not really required. I see that nielm is storing the Zap2it ID (I also have that in my own written Database).

Updated the download with a new version

(2.1.2)
- Fix import of .my file TVGenre missing first character
- When importing .my file it will save to wiz.bin and .properties file
- When saving from Edit Metadata it will save to wiz.bin and .properties file
- Added importing of title, TVEpisode and ProdCode from .my file

I'm not sure how to do
TVOriginalAiringDate
TVStartDate=
TVStartTime=
TVEndTime=
as there's not really anywhere they can be saved to.

Wow... very cool.. Thanks John

I'm at work now.. But I'll test it when I get home.

What is the difference between .properties and .my ? I noticed they used pretty much the same information?... I guess you can't import the other items as it's not really an "import section" field... If that's the reason.. I'm fine with that!

I am currently saving both .my and .properties files for everything.
I figured that the info that can't import into the wiz.bin can at least be displayed in the video details, but I would like to keep both files up to date.

Ben, SageTV has an inbuilt parser for .properties files that will load that data into the database and it is a format that Sage will expand support of in later releases. The .my files are a legacy of MyHTPC, which I suppose became the de-facto standard for external metadata, but is pretty much a free for all as far as tags go.

The files produced by this import contain very similar data, but the .properties files have a lot of tags that are not supported. A full list of supported .properties tags is here.

No, it's not saving to .my files. Because of all the extra data that can be in .my files I didn't want to overwrite them and lose that data. I've got some ideas of how I might do it, but it needs a bit of time to sort out.

Few "beginners" questions

ok, imported the stvi.
It seems to work fine.
However... It could be that I am using something wrong.
I am going intto "Media Center" options, and under "imported videos".
Then, per movie I have there I click the IMDB search and save the data found.
But I can't see the image to the left of the movie.
I go into the imprted movies directory - the jpg (as well as the movie properties and my files) are there.
I can only see the image if I shut down Sage and run it again.

What I am doing wrong?

Also, is there a place that gives explanation for the different fields of settings under the setup/advance settings of this STVi?

Thanks!
