You can't install one version of 3.x over another, it will corrupt the install. Unzip it in a new, clean directory.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured happened.

I've been running Java Java 1.4.2-11 in V5 and V6 of SageTV. The spinning Sage icon was a constant occurrence whenever I was doing anything in the UI. It was very annoying in SageTV v5 and its almost unbearable in v6.
Perhaps I should install Java 6 and see if my troubles wash away.

I figured going back would just be a matter of uninstalling 6 and reinstalling 4.

I had some .jar files in the JRE folder in program files that may have been used by the xml importer. Thats the only reason I backed it up (copied it just incase), but in the end I changed to StephaneM's imported which works fine with Java 6 so it didn't matter.
I don't know if I needed the old jar files in that folder in the first place or not, they were duplicated with the ones in the sagetv\jars folder, I was just being over cautious. |

Just installed Java 6. I can notice some differences, but the spinning logo continues. I even had the app lose connection with service once. It happened once with java 1.4
I already openned a support report. Just turned on debugging to see if that helps the support team. I turned off all of the animation in SageMC to see if that helps. Things are still pretty flaky for me. Definitely worse with SageTV v6.

I had 1.6 installed with v5. I did a clean install of v6 and had a problem when playing any HD file...I would get audio but no picture, and the OSD would turn a bright blue. Re-installing 1.4.2_13 fixed it. I haven't tried 1.5.0_10.

Deactivated SageMCE and went back to regular UI. I did see a performance increase, and less of the spinning logo.
i did have the UI crash on me once the first time I attempted to go in to the music browser. My process list still showed SageTV.exe and SageTVService.exe I killed the SageTV.exe in order to restart the UI application. Once I did that I was able to get into the music browser.

I don't user service mode any more, and have a vbscript running that checks to see if sage is running, and if it stops for some reason, it restarts it. |

Kirby,
Here is the Script I wrote. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...2&postcount=18 I do not run Service Mode anymore I kept losing connection for some reason... So I started running The application. PS if I want to watch any shows on the server I simply start another instance of SageTV with the -client switch. This way if the show I am watching for some reasons causes a crash it will not affect recordings.

thats virtually the same as the script I use, i think the sleep count is slightly different but just about the same otherwise.
I pinched that from someone else too!!!!!! but you have to remember that its running, it gets annoying sometimes when you close sage down to change something and up it pops again before you've had time to kill the script. |

For those who may be curious. Since installing V6 server and client with Java 6 my 'spinning icons of shame' have almost disappeared. Menus are snappy, the whole nine yards. Server is running Sage as a service perfectly. Very nice

I have to say, I instantly noticed an improvement in the UI speed after upgrading to java 6.0.
Thanks to nielm, the ati remote plugin work around works well. http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthr...ass#post177507 Last edited by ozfiles; 01-03-2007 at 06:04 PM. |
