newbe - Intel motherboard advice
After weeks of forum searching I have almost decided on a setup for my house
my setup will be the following. 1 x Dedicated Sage TV Server with 6 x tuners (5 SD and 1 HD) 2 x PC Sage TV Clients 4 x MVP Sage Clients I have decided to go for Intel E6600 CPU for the Server ! Can anyone recommend a stable motherboard with at least 3 PCI slots for the E6600 ? Thanks in advance Last edited by daz19; 02-08-2007 at 02:08 PM. |

Check compatibility, but the Asus in my .sig has 3x PCI, it's the third MB I've had in my server and the first I've been happy with...

FWIW, I recently upgraded my Sage server:
Intel 6300 C2D Intel DG965WH motherboard. Has integrated video, audio, and 3 PCI slots 2x512MB Kinsgston Value-RAM DDR2-533 3Ware 9590SE PCI-e RAID card 4x500GB drives in RAID5 1x300GB drive as OS and PVR drive (11GB for OS and apps, the rest for Sage) Nvidia Dualtv for analog TV, cable box via firewire for HD. Corsair 520W PS Coolermaster Stacker case As long as you don't plan on overclocking, the Intel board is a good choice. Intel has traditionally made very stable and reliable motherboards. It is also fanless, and has enough integrated components so that your expansion slots are free for other things.

Same board here...been running 24/7 for a few weeks now. Go to Asus' site and read the board specific thread to avoid headaches. P |

Congrats.
Remember: http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us Some tips: For XP, just install the latest WiFi AP Solo for WPA...their info is a little confusing (it's for Vista). Update the EEPROM though. Remember to set your ICH7R, ACPI and APIC options before installing Windows. Have a temp floppy hooked up to Update the BIOS and if you're going to use AHCI mode on the ICH7R (F6 Driver Install). (I didn't try EZFlash from a thumbdrive for the BIOS, but that looks like the best way). You may have to disable "By SPD" and select your memory speed if the board gets it wrong. Perfect SageTV Server motheboard
I was looking for the perfect motherboard for a SageTV Server as well. How does Core2Duo support and 6 potential PCI slots sound?
Here is the only one of it's kind. http://www.supermicro.com/products/m...000/PDSMA+.cfm The fact it has onboard video and dual Gigabit Ethernet is gravy. You don't need much video on a server, and therefore don't have to waste any slots for it. I'm saving up for it too, along with a C2D 6600. -Robert |
