Dish and Duplicate HD channels

Dish network recently made software upgrades available to the vip-211 receiver that groups the high-def and standard-def channels together at the original 3-digit channel. There is now no way via the remote (and the R5000-hd) that I have found to tune to the standard def channel directly. For most channels this is fine, but for Discovery, Food, HGTV and a few others that run differing HD/SD programming lineups it makes it impossible to record the SD channel any longer.

I spent about 25 minutes with Dish customer service and they confirmed that you can no longer direct tune the SD channel when there is a HD equivalent. They said this is a ‘feature’ and there is no plan to change the way the tuning now works.

I don’t know if we can get Sage and/or the Nextcom folks to get a work around, but for now I’m no longer able to record our houses 2 most popular channels.

I'm having this problem with an R5000-hd setup, but I suspect it would also hit people using IR to tune channels as well.

You can disable the HD mapdown "feature" by going to system setup > local Channels > chan display > and then disable DishHD in guide.

This will remove the mapped down versions, but you will still be able to tune them in by keying in their channel # in the 9000's and you will now be able to access the SD version directly by their original channel number. Basically it goes back to the way it used to be.

Wow grooves, that just SERIOUSLY boosted my WAF... hehe

Now to make seperate channel lineups for my 211 so I can get the HD and SD channels... I think I may logical remap the HD channels to -1, so they are listed together.
