Implement Volume Leveling For Music?

I posted a similar question in the software forum. I want to be able to have volume leveling for my WMA lossless files without changing the original files. I currently do this with tags in the music files that the software players read and adjust the volume accordingly (JRMC has Replay Gain and WMP has Volume Leveling).

Since it appears that this support is not built into Sage, I am curious if it would be possible to do with some kind of add-in using the API? That is, read the appropriate tag when a song starts and adjust the volume. If this would work on the server PC, does setting the volume via the API also work on an extender? Thanks.

My SageWMP plugin provides programmatic access to WMA tags, so it ought to be possible to use that info to set the playback volume automatically, using either the native Sage media player or the SageWMP player plugin. I haven't done any experimentation along those lines myself. Source is included with the plugin if you want to try your hand at it, or if you can provide details on how the tags should be used, I could take a closer look at it when I get a chance.

Does your WMP plugin use WMP as playback such that if Volume Leveling is selected in WMP it will be used by your plugin? Also, I assume that the plugin is not usable by an extender? I am just investigating Sage at the moment so thanks for any help.

I have asked this in a few places so I hope I can get an answer here. Is there any way to have volume leveling on the extenders for music? By this I mean the "Auto Volume Leveling" in WMP or "Replay Gain" in JRMC where the overall volume level is stored in a tag and the volume is automatically adjusted in the player based on this to make subsequent tracks the same volume. This is very important for doing random mixes which I often do. I don't want to alter my original (WMA) lossless files with something like MP3 Gain so I am wondering if this tag approach is possible with extenders? Thanks.

I merged your latest question with the one where you asked it last time... what exactly are you trying to get answered? Your other posts about this have gotten answers that volume levelling isn't built into SageTV.

I understand that it is not built in but I'm trying to figure out that if I can get the WMP plugin to do it will it then just work with extenders? Or is there some other way to get events from the extender and to control its volume from the server over the network to implement my own volume leveling? Thanks.

Yes, you assume correctly (which is why I didn't answer this question sooner).

No, it won't work. The extender doesn't use WMP; it has its own built-in hardware decoder and audio renderer. (Again, I thought this was understood from the previous discussion.)
