ISO Support in Latest Firmware??

Hi All,

Did I just miss it from earlier versions or did the latest firmware update include ISO support?

I stumbled upon a previously ripped DVD ISO (created using DVDDecrypter) while browsing to open another file outside my library.

The extender didn't seem to support any of the DVD navigation functions and had to be fast-forwarded to get to the main movie. But it worked fine once it got into the movie!

Jay,

I am not sure about thr previous firmware versions, but you I can confirm your findings - DVD ISO images are playing just fine. PAUSE AND FFWD and REW functionality is available, but not chapter SKIP forward or back.

This is an interesting finding. I have been converting all my movies from ISO to "video_ts/audio_ts" directory structure so that sage can recognize. If sage can play .iso files then the next question is how do you get the media scan to recognize .ISO files?

TO get Sage to locate ISO files and put them in the import library, edit sage.properties with Sage completely shut down.

Look for this line:
Code:
seeker/video_library_import_filename_extensions=.mpg,.mpeg,.mp2,.mpeg2,.mpe,.avi,.divx,.mpg1,.ts,.wmv,.asf,.wm,.tivo,.m2t,.vob,.flv,.mp4,.mov,.trp,.m4v,.ogm,.3gp,.mkv,.dvr-ms
and add .iso to the list. That should set up Sage to scan the ISO files. Now, wether or not it can actually use them, I dunno.

Would this enables playing and HD or BD-DVD ripped into an ISO enveloppe? This would be interesting

It still needs to understand what is inside that ISO...

If Sage could actually spend some time coding for ISO support too, that would be great! It would be nice to save all my DVD's as ISO's and gain full menu/navigation support.

I've tested this with DVD ISOs of which I have many and it does appear to work to a certain degree.

Some ISOs work fine via the sage HD extender.

Some however work oddly or not at all (one of them I got blocked because of sage parental restrictions probably an R rated DVD, but couldn't figure out how to enter my parental code??)

Seems like without menu Nav it's hard to get some DVDs to start properly if the ISO has full menu included in it.

Haven't tried an HD or BR ISO yet, but will have one or two of those that I'm playing with.

Thanks

SageTV supports full navigation now without ISOs.

I thought the server had to mount the iso with something like DaemonTools for this to work ?

My remote currently tells the server to mount the .iso file using a tcp application I wrote and then issues the playdvd command to Nielm's webserver which tells the HD extender to play it. I did the same with pc clients a while back as well.

Sure would be nice to know if there was an easier way.

I don't have a HD extender, but I do want to use ISO to play Blu-ray and HD DVD's, I have Daemon Tools Pro 4.10.218 and I can't get the command line to mound a ISO
here is the link to command line help : http://www.daemonpro-help.com/comman..._switches.html
I seen this post and another one yesterday about mounting ISO images, link: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...ight=mount+iso

Is there a way to play Blu-ray and HD DVD's from a folder with PowerDVD Ultra 8, without a ISO?
I am trying to set my HTPC up for future HD content.

Thanks
Scat

I don't have any Blu-ray content, but to play a HD-DVD from a folder you need to use an earlier version of PowerDVD. Someone on the HTPC section of AVSForum has instructions for copying the necessary files from PowerDVD 7 into PowerDVD 8 so that you can still use the features of 8 with the capabilities of 7.

I'm able to mount DVD .isos with Daemon Tools Pro using a commandline. I haven't tried BluRay or HDDVD.

I really would like to see full DVD ISO support. How can we go about pushing this as a feature? I have a NAS device and have been putting my DVD collection on it in ISO format and using XBMC as my set top playback device.

I want to take it to the next level to add some form of Live TV and DVR support. I have been looking at MythTV (it supports DVD ISO and TV) but setup is a bit painful and I'm not sure I could get a nice set top setup with that. I like the SageTV HD extender w/ Sage Media Center on the back end, but I don't want to have to extract my ISO files to play them back.

What can we do to encourage full ISO support? What I am unsure of would ISO support be needed at the HD Extender or on the Media Center back end?

Thanks!!

Why ISO though? No one can ever really give a good reason. There are programs that will batch unpack ISO's into their file structure. Sage plays perfectly back as long as it is is in the "Audio_TS/Video_TS" structure. I understand you are currently using ISO's for XMBC, but if that is all that is missing from Sage, do a batch unpack and tada.....perfectly Sage compatible. Space wise you are only saving a fraction of a percert in storage by packing the iso's. Besides, having everything packed into an ISO actually takes a little longer to rip the DVD than just doing a straight copy with something like DVDFab HD.
