Are you doing a port forward for the webserver's port? I think the default port is 8080 and that port should be forwarded to your SageTV PC.

After a couple reinstalls and reboots, it just started working. Thanks for the suggestion.

civerson4,
Did you get this worked out or do you still need help? I missed your post (obviously months ago) but wanted to be sure you got the help you were needing.

I just recently switched from BTV to Sage and tried to import my videos using this. Some came in fine. Others show up but don't play and still others will play, but I can't fast forward or rewind. I would like to remove what has been pulled into the sage DB and reimport. Is there a way to do this without deleting the actual videos?

Move them to a different directory that is NOT a SageTV Import directory and then refesh the media or restart Sage.

What format were the videos that didn't import properly? Were they not all BTV recordings?

They are mpg and they are all btv recordings. They also showed as archived if that matters.

Hmm. Then you should definitely NOT be having trouble with them playing or with fast forward or rewinding. Those types of issues have nothing to do with the steps mentioned in this thread - SageTV should import those mpg files with ease and automatically be able to play, fast forward or rewind them.

The only thing the above steps do is to bring over the metadata and properly place the mpgs into the recorded shows section of SageTV.

Have you tried recording shows within SageTV and see if you have playback issues on those? I'm wondering if you might need to adjust the playback settings or something.

In doing some more digging, I noticed that the files that won't play at all are listed as being on an HD channel. I didn't record these shows off of the hd channels.
Also the ones that don't fast forward are not even the right show. ihave them listed in the imported videos section and when played there it is fine. But if I try to play it from the Recorded TV area it is a different show????

I have been recording shows for a couple weeks now with sage and have had no problems.

All these videos have also played well thru imported and BTV.

That is why I was hoping there was a way to remove them from the DB file without deleting the videos and try to reimport them.

Heh. I used to find that BTV would do this all of the time with analog recordings from a pvr150. I'd have problems with BTV recorded files not progressing on the timeline and not being able to ff or rw them, though you could watch the file all of the way through. I recall many people experiencing this and fixing files using video redo. I've not had this problem in Sage . </ssBash>

After using BeyondTV for a long, long time, I just bought SageTV. I am exploring moving my show metadata from BeyondTV into SageTV. I followed Brent's excellent tutorial from Geek Tonic but ran into a quick snag...

BTV Negociator version 4.15 doesn't connect to my BTV (4.9.1 build 6192).

So, I tried BTV Negociator version 5.07 and 5.14b3. Both connect successfully to my BeyondTV but neither version has the Browser->Library function (and the required export functionality).

As a result, there doesn't seem to be a way for me to get my metadata out of BeyondTV and into SageTV. Can anyone help?

If you need an older version of BTVN let me know with a PM. I can send it to you. Or if that doesn't work we can check with Foncuer for a fix

I'm in the process of doing the same thing. You have to use a new version of Negociator (I'm using 5.13b). The screens are slightly different. After sucessfully connecting you need to select the "Recording Jobs" tab, then the "Library" side tab. From there the rest of the steps work.

I hope this helps.

Try it with the most-current version (5.13)? See the link above for the file. Please let us know how it works out for you.

I am having the same problem with null pointer exception.

- I have the latest BTV
- I am now using Negociator 5.13b as you suggest
- I only selected one show to simplify testing - see attached XML file.
- I have SageTV 6.6 and the build 50 of the webserver, the latest version.

What do you suggest? I suspect that duplicating the process in a debugger should point out the problem quickly.

I don't have BTV installed any more so I can't test. Have any of you who are experiencing issues with this mentioned it to Fonceur (dev for BTV Negociator). Fonceur hangs around these forums and the BTV forums.

Thank you for your suggestion to contact Fonceur. I am new to SageTV, but I assumed that the problem was at least partially in the webserver. The XML file (which I provided) is only a few lines and should be independent of BTV, assuming that the data in the various fields is considered valid for SageTV.

If input data is sanity checked, it should preclude the possibility of a null pointer error. Null pointer errors occur when a program attempts to access data indirectly through an address pointer and the address pointer is zero (null). This is often related to a situation that is not expected by the program or that is not handled correctly.

This is not reflection on the fine work that has been done to create this software. On of Murphy's Laws of Programming says that the definition of a working, non-trivial program, is that it have only unobserved bugs.

I assumed that anyone that is setup to execute the webserver plugin in a debugging environment would be able to at least provide more information about what is not working.

I considered doing this debugging myself, but I am too new to SageTV and the program environment at this point.

If anyone can do this for me, or give me pointers on setting up the debugging environment, I would appreciate it.

Indeed, the BTV-Negociator XML file format hasn't changed and worked fine before, so the issue lays somewhere in the updated SageTV web server...
