Only two hooked up currently (a HDHomeRun running in dual ATSC mode). I'de like to add another HDHomeRun and run it in dual QAM mode. I just started with Sage and my family isn't use to watching TV via a DVR (with pausing live TV etc). So for the near future, it is only being used for recording purposes and not watching live TV.

If that changes, then I'll need to add more tuners so we have enough recording capacity along with watching liveTV.

I also own 2 CatsEye USB HD tuners and a MyHD-130 HD card with the optional DVI daughter card, but don't have them hooked up to the computer at this time.

I have 3 PVR250's connected to 3 cable boxes. Once thay are available I'll replace them with 3 of the Hauppage component capture devices. Then once I get 3 HD100's and two more HD screens I'll add 2 OTA tuners and enable the HD channels in the cable boxes (my current PC clients aren't capable of playing HD).

I have 6 on an 8-drop amp. 1 feeds the modem on unity return, another feeds the analogs, and a 3rd feeds the HDHR, but I still can't get above about 92-94% strength on it, the rest go to TVs. thinking about changing the splitter since it's a PITA to run extra coax.

I have 8:

4 HVR-1600s

I do have an amp on the OTA antenna line and got tons of help by replacing the 900 MHz splitters with 2300 MHz splitters.

I started with a Plextor ConvertX PX-TV402U (1 analog tuner) and was quite happy with a single tuner until I switched from the pack-in crapware to SageTV and discovered the wonders of Favorites and Intelligent Recordings. This led to adding a Hauppauge PVR-500 (2 analog tuners) for a little more flexibility in my recording schedule. Again, I was happy. Then I learned through this forum that I was probably receiving several clear QAM channels through my analog cable service, so I added a SiliconDust HDHomeRun (2 digital tuners) for a total of 5 tuners. Last night at 11pm, all 5 were in use with a Manual, two Favorites, and two Intelligents.

I was sizing up that last free PCI slot when I decided that I really didn't need another PVR-500 just yet. (Maybe after Extenders are back in stock and I can get the rest of the family hooked.) I don't think I've had a scheduling conflict among my Favorites and Manuals since I hit 3 tuners. Thanks to Intelligent Recordings finding new series I'd never heard of and old series I'd almost forgotten or didn't know were still on the air, that's also about the same time SageTV started giving me more television than I have time to watch.

If I haven't said it before, I'd like to express my opinion that if you pay for cable television and don't use SageTV with multiple tuners, you aren't getting your money's worth. SageTV makes watching television fun again.

TF2 is a sickness, ain't it?

Once I set down at 10pm to play a little TF2, an when I logged off it was after 3am.

Now I have a clock sitting on my gaming desk so I can track the time I'm wasting away

I have no life with 4. Those of you with 8-20 are either the biggest geeks in the world or the smartest as you are running your own cable company.

Yes, why is it every time I'm going to play for "only an hour" I get a good team and end up playing for 3.

When I have three hours I can't find a good server to save my life and I'm fed up after one!

To come back on topic though, will the mythic Hauppage HD capture device count as a "tuner" since it won't have any hardware for actually tuning a signal?

How did I manage to post something three hours in the future from the same computer? If I was home I'd say it's because my internet connection is fast, but at work? I'm surprised I'm not still typing it three hours later.

I guess if I had more people watching TV through Sage (or no writer's strike) I might have pulled the trigger on a second HVR-1600 but I honestly can't justify it as I rarely as I have a conflict. The only reason I'm even thinking about the upcoming Hauppage HD capture box is so I can get more of my HD channels recorded, not because I really need a third tuner.

Of course with my recent addiction to TF2 I haven't watched much TV anyway but it's still great knowing I haven't missed anything when I do!

1- PVR 500, Comcast SD (two tuners)
1 - Fusion 5 Lite, OTA HD
1 - Vbox Cat's eye, OTA HD
So 1+1+1 = 4 Tuners
Who said math wasn't fun?

1 HDHR for 2 free QAM channels. I only get the locals here.
1 Nvidia Dual TV for analog. This is only for the extra channels not covered by digital. I rarely watch analog anymore.
2 R5000s. For digital Comcast cable. One is down right now because it will not change channels so I am getting all sorts of conflicts. Luckily digital cable rebroadcasts nearly everything so I don't really feel I am missing anything. I really like the R5000 because it records everything in native format. I'm worried the new component capture devices will hurt the picture quality, not because of the h.264 conversion, but because of the poor scaling in the cable box.
