I thought you already had a computer you were planning to re-purpose?

I do have a computer I wanted to re-use, but once I got to thinking - it's a Gateway from like, 99. So that probably wouldn't work too well without a lot of work going into it.
And yeah, I know I'd have to get a hard drive, RAM, CPU and such. I have RAM and a HD, and a CPU isn't really that expensive usually. As to the expansion slot, I don't see myself trying to get any more tuners in the future. But I will keep browsing for more cases. |

How are you planning to watch the TV that you've recorded? If you are planning to watch via extender (HD or SD MVP) then the server isn't doing anything that really requires any CPU horsepower.
If you are watching other than MPEG2 files (ie something you've download, or converted to a different format), you can get a HD extender and still not need much of a server to power it (watching these non-MPEG2 files via the MVP requires server transcoding, so it would be problematic). This assumes that you can run a clean XP install, with minimal services and extra programs. If you want to use the computer to do "other" things too, then you'll certainly need something faster. If it were me, i'd buy the hauppauge 150 you looked at earlier and try it out in the system. If it can't even keep up with the recording and serving files, then you upgrade. If it can, you saved a couple of hundred $$. THe HD extenders are sold out now, but you might be able to find a used MVP for cheap on ebay or someplace. I wouldn't buy a new one, but if you can get a used one for $40 or so, it might be worth a try. Matt

I honestly have no clue what an extender is. So I'll probably go with what you said and get the Hauppauge 150, then if I really like this whole PVR scene, I'll slowly upgrade.

Here is the SD version: http://www.hauppauge.com/html/mediamvp_datasheet.htm
and HD: http://store.sagetv.com/Merchant2/me...tegory_Code=SB Sounds like you need to do a little more reading on the forums and in the manual so you know what you'll be doing.
