Just received a reply from Hauppauge on commercial cutting:

Maybe hint that it include a command line cutter (from an edl list).

Nope, They said the included video program can indeed handle cuts from inside the program... I wonder if this will work for all H.264/ACC files or just the AVCHD files produced by the HD-PVR?

Out of curiosity has anyones CC been billed for the HD-PVR? Just wondering as mine has not, I hope that does not indicate a problem.

DirecTV came on Friday, installed the HD. I'm watching SciFiHD now, and keep pressing the "pause" button but it doesn't do anything. Damn. LiveTV sucks sooo bad.
Oy, I want my HD-DVR to ship! |

My CableCo just added a couple of new HD chanels, so the temptation to set up the HD-DVR is that much higher now. Just need conformation that the HD extender will play these files back and I'll be ready to get one of each (when the budget allows).

I had the same question.. I just did a direct tv upgrade to the dual tuner HR21. I was wondering with Sage TV with or without this Hauppauge box I would I have been better off with two regular HD DirectTV boxes then a dual tuner directv pvr?
I assume since Sage via this Hauppauge box rides on the component outputs it cant see that second tuner anyway.. And if Iwant to replicate what the directv pvr does to record two shows I should get two basic directv HD boxes and/or get hdhomerun or similar to pick up these hd shows via over the air when they are from CBS/NBC/FOX? Connection?
Maybe the answer to this is here already and I just missed it.. sorry if that is the case!!
But I wonder.. how will we integrate this into the Sage System? It looks like the interface is USB.. will this connect into the USB port on the HD Extenders? How will the recordings get to our servers? Or will this unit plug straight into our servers via USB and then we can use the network for transporting to the extenders? For me.. if I could put it all into a single closet and only run RJ45 to the Extenders.. that would be the cleanest way to do it! If this was the case and the extenders had CD/DVD drives in them, it would eliminate a whole lot of equipment from my entertainment center! Just wondering how this might be integrated! Thanks!

If it does not plug into the extender you can either make sure it is located close enough to the server to plag into the server directly, or you can buy some USB to Ethernet adapters (which are about $100 if I remember correctly.)

This device connects directly to the server via USB. Think the VBOX Cat's Eye except instead of an ATSC tuner it has an HD encoder and instead of connecting to an antenna it connects to a set-top box using component inputs.
It would make no sense to connect this directly to the extenders just as it makes no sense to connect your other tuners to the extenders. That's what the server is for. S Last edited by sleonard; 04-14-2008 at 04:43 PM. |

I sent Hauppage an email asking if the drivers would support more than one of these devices per system and here is the reply:

Is there anyway that a single core cpu will work with this? It's been mentioned that a tuner will also be needed. Could someone recommend an appropriate tuner to use?

hopefully Sage will support at least two because, I ordered two

I plan to use this in a single core xp2800 CPU sage server which is already supporting 2 HDTV ATSC cards and a Hauppauge 500. Since this a hardware encoder I would imagine that the horsepower will be needed to edit or play back the video which I will be doing on the clients. This is not a tuner but a video capture card. You don't necessarily need a tuner card but its nice to have a separate OTA HDTV tuner to record local network feeds.

That is promising since the drivers support multiple devices. Looks like the software is the only limiting factor and as long as SageTV works it it, dual (or more) support shouldn't be an issue.

AVCHD is a great algorithm for file size - but very complex for older CPUs. Last edited by subhadipsas; 04-15-2008 at 05:11 AM. |
