Unhappy PVR-250/350 Compatability

I have a XP Pro System with 1 PVR-250-16 and a PVR-350. I'm seeming to have compatiblity issues with the cards. I can get one card to record fine (don't know which one) but the other seems to give my stuttery video with warbly audio. Once channel recording is fine then all other channels have the playback issues.

I've also experience the initiation issues with the bad picture with the static along the bottom of the screen. Then I do the change the quality down ->close sage->open sage and set setting back to great quality.

I've seen posts that others have had problems with these two cards and others haven't. Any advice on getting this stuff to work?

I can get the cards to work for a time and then after several hours it all goes bad again. Also had trouble getting them installed and working with SageTV. Many crashes on startup of SageTV and unrecognized cards.

1. Is a fresh clean driver install ala SHS site instructions the right way to go?

2. Also what are the lastest stable and/or correct drivers to use. I've been using the 17a disk that came with both cards and according to device manager i have version: 1.17.390.21283

Setup:
Intel D845PEBT2 motherboard
Pentium 4 2.4 MHZ
XP Pro SP1
512 Mg Ram
Radeon 9000 video card
SoundBlaster Live sound card

Please help...this is very frustrating.

I think the mix of the 250 and 350 is a no-no, for now.

I myself am interested in a setup like that.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone successfully integrated the two cards.

If so, what PCI slots do you have the cards in? I think PCI slot 1, 5 are supposed to be empty. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, has anyone been able to combine another capture card with the PVR-350 without any issues, and if so, what card did you use?

I have but I have a PVR250(15) not one of the newer 16 cards. I believe most of the issues are the result of mixings 15 and 16 cards irrespect of 250/350. I have no proof of this it's just a pattern I think I've seen from reading lots of posts. Alot of people think this is a driver issue related to hauppauge. Then some think it's a PCI bus issue. All I know is that it does appear to be a problem for many users.
I may be able to add more data to this situation when Frey adds support for MCE2004(blackbird) style cards. I have a M150, it's basically(I'm oversimplifying) a PVR250(16) made by avermedia. If it works in the same box as my 250(15) and 350(15) then I think we can narrow the issue to Hauppauge. Time will tell.

PS:For those that don't know PVR350s all use the 15 chipset.

EDIT:

I believe the 350 is in slot 6 and 250 is in slot 4. I may have miscounted because I had to really lean way over stuff to see the back of my case. I am sure that PCI 1 is empty, since it shares an IRQ with the AGP videocard. I don't have a problem with IRQs since I have all serial and parallel ports disabled in Bios. I also pulled the modem(I have cable internet) and use a USB mouse and keyboard. I don't know if all this other info is usefull but anything that could help to resolve this is good, in my book.

I would recommend that for now you just use one of the cards (probably the 350). I have spent much time trying to determine what the problem with mixing the two cards are. I have now built a new system and it also has the same problem. I am now running a network with the 350 in a different computer. My 350 tuner seems to be fried, all images appear to be scrambled, at least the S-video input and component output still works. It may be possible the attempting to mix the 2 cards in a single system may damage a card.
However, if you wish to continue you might want to disable the 350 output to see if the problem goes away. The playing of a video would not use a card at all except for something like a 350 with the 350-output enabled. I have played videos with no cards installed.

Yeah, I played around with a buddy's HP with Windows MCE. I decided that I'll probably build my HTPC based on Sage 2.0 because I like their ability to play a show while recording another channel.

Which leads me to wanting to integrate 2 capture cards.

I've read over at avsforum that the S-Video out PQ from the PVR-350 even beat DVI out. Maybe it's a issue with the user's video card??

But considering that at the moment we can't mix a 350 with a 250, I'll probably go with just two 250s and hope the PQ is good enough from DVI out from a EVGA GFX 5900SE.

SVideo out is better when connecting to standard definition TV's. When connecting to an HDTV you should use DVI or Component and run at either 480p, 720p, or 1080i if possible.

Smile

Well I was able to solve my issue. I think it had to do with the PVR-350(15) not liking the PVR-250(16) card as it's been discribed by others on the boards.

Removed my PVR-350(15) card and replaced it with a PVR-250(16) card and now everything is fine. No picture or audio issues.

Thanks...
