Newbe - SageTV with HDhomerun OTA only
I am new to sage TV and am trying to get it setup successfully with HDhomerun and both tuners receiving from an antenna. I am trying to get the program guide fully populated with data. All I have been able to achieve is some channels with program data and many that say No Data.
I followed these instructions to the letter: http://www.silicondust.com/wiki/hdho...sagetv_antenna For troubleshooting I have removed and reset up the tuners many times. Uninstalled Sage TV and reinstalled following the directions for complete removal. Read lots about remapping and experimented with it all without success. If anything I am farther behind now. Fewer channels seem to be properly created when I install the tuners than I had at an earlier time. I have tried both the Washington DC and Baltimore - Digital Broadcast guide sources (one or the other on a given install of the tuners). What I believe is a properly setup channel appears like this: 2-1-WMAR-HD-[52-2-1] WMAR-HD Many of these get program data but some don't. Lately when I install the tuners many channels appear as just: 52-1- DTV52-1- [52-0-1] DTV52-1 or 52-1-WMARDT-[52-0-1] WMARDT2 (WMAR-DT) Baltimore If the station call letters are not there it will not get data and that is understandable. I disable all of those. I can change the logical channel info to get 52-1 to appear as 2-1 and the physical channel to [52-2-1] but this has made no difference in the program guide getting data. I have not been able to figure what "Map Different station to this physical Channel" is supposed to accomplish. Everything I have tried with that option only makes things worse. If remapping needs to be done it isn't clear what to do. Remap discussions all appear to address only cable not OTA antenna reception. If I need to remap please say which of the map choices I need to use. There are three of them. Map to Different Logical Channel Number Map to Different Physical Channel Number Map Different Station to this Physical Channel Any ideas on how I can get program data on all of the channels? |

Please read: Digital channel not getting guide data in this EPG section of the forum.
The channels have to be mapped to stations which SageTV can get EPG data for, otherwise the stations have to provide PEG data in their streams. - Andy

Sorry if I posted in an incorrect section. I believed this to be a software setup issue rather than an EPG issue. I think The software is not configuring the channels correctly to receive EPG data. On what seems like the 50th reinstal of the tuners I think I'm on to something. More later if this works. |

It has taken me 3 days of searching forums and trial and error to figure this out.
Every time I reinstall the tuners and scan for channels I get a different result. On my last reinstall of the tuners only channels in this format appeared and were activated: 52-1-WMARDT-[52-0-1] WMARDT2 (WMAR-DT) Baltimore What is new is that these all have Program guide data though they don't have the correct Physical and Logical channel numbers. These are numbered by the REAL Channel name that matches their actual broadcast frequency rather than the channel they would appear as if tuned on a Digital TV. In other words what appears as 52-1 is actually channel 2-1 in TV Guides and when tuned with a TVs built in tuner. Having this many channels with guide data is is major progress. I still have a number stations missing because they appear without the stations call sign and are disabled. They appear in this format: 52-1- DTV52-1- [52-0-1] DTV52-1 If I enable them, these channels function but do not have Guide Data which I assume is because it doesn't have the the stations call sign WMAR-HD. I just got some channels that appeared in this format working. Rather than remap this entry which I already know doesn't work I disabled these entries and ignored them. Instead I added these same channels in as new channels which allowed me to provide the missing station call sign. I used the same channel numbers as in the existing entry that I disabled. I obtained the stations station ID from the url of a zap2it listing for that specific channel. It worked and got program guide information. I just finished manually entering all the rest of the channels and they all get program guide data now. Next I made copies of my sage.properties and wiz.bin files. There are some other channels that I don't really care about that were not appearing at all so I rotated my antenna in that direction and scanned for channels again. Very bad idea. I was thankful that I had backed up those configuration files because scanning again broke all that I had setup and gave me a bunch of working channels with no guide data again. I copied the sage.properties and wiz bin files back and it wasn't fixed. I stopped the sageTV service and restarted it and I had my backed up configuration back and working. Every channel is now getting Program Guide data! Good gosh this has been difficult to figure out. There are major functional issues with channel discovery in sageTV when used with HDhomerun OTA that the cheapest TV has no trouble with at all. I now regret not doing the trial before I purchased because I fear I will encounter major problems again when the channel lineups change again in Feb 2009. I'll have to remember to enter the changes manually and not scan. Another tip for anyone installing Sage on a HP Mediasmart server that may not happen on less specialized hardware. Don't run sage Client on the MSS server via a remote desktop connection. Once sage has tuners installed if you run the sage client via remote desktop connection it will display an unstoppable stream of no audio error messages forcing you to close sageTV. There is no need to do anything with sage via a remote desktop connection. The Home server console provides all the sage features you need to access on the server. After installing the sageTV add-in on the server enter your licenses through the console then use an extender or Sage client installed on another computer to configure sageTV. You will need to use a remote desktop connection to install the HDhomerun though. Hope this helps someone else get theirs working. |
