So i think i need to look into the SageTV webserver... it seems like (judging from google's use of safari for its new (to the iphone) latitude app, that web may be the more robust way to go for sage... hmmm

Intelliphone/intelliremote is the best way right now I think. But that’s only "one way", to have a genuine 2 way installed app would be perfect. I haven’t tried the mobile web remote, but a web app isn’t the way to go on a daily basis (my opinion) |

I jsut verified with my firends iPhone that you can use the web server add on and then go there with the iPhone and do fun things....even control an extender!

I love Orb and have been using it on an iPhone since the pre-AppStore days. I just wished Orb worked with the HD-PVR for live TV... or that Hava would hurry up and come out with its iPhone app already

Well orb is great, but its more a remote controller piece of software with the capabilities of browsing through you music, pictures, movies and then send the output to whatever extender you wish, maybe even several extenders (off cause through the server).

But you can use it with the sage web server (I still use nielm's , not the mobile web interface) to watch live tv on your phone. Just launch your phone's browser and use the web interface to start a recording, then switch to orb to start watching it. I do it all the time on my blackberry, although mostly just to show people I can do it

Ahh.. the advantages of not buying into an overly restricted device... I was watching SageTV recordings over 2 years ago no my windows mobile phone, through the web interface. Of course, I have no need for that anymore, so havent' done it in a while, but remember it was rather painles once you got it figured out.
Still, placeshifter porting over would be the best option, but I see that hapenning for WM long before iPhone...

It's been great -- Orb's streamer started working with jailbroken iPhones the summer of '08. I'll like it even better once Hava releases their own streaming app and/or Orb gets better at streaming the HD-PVR's .ts files

It'll be even funnier when AT&T decides to block anything that uses more bandwidth than a text message.. y'know.. like a picture message...

Orb User On iPhone For A Year
I am an Orb user on my old 3G iPhone (no, not the 3GS-grrr!). I have been streaming LIVE TV for the same amount of time using Orb. It's been great. I routinely stream sage recordings to my phone. I also like to watch live TV like cash cab or NFL games (Monday night usually). The Good Full screen by turning phone in widescreen direction Transcodes everything using streamlined FREE install. iPhone app is $10 (one time charge) Excellent quality...picture quality is even better on recordings than on LIVE TV The Bad Does not see digital tuner cable programming Does not see HDHR on Windows XP Sometimes will "fail" to connect, but after one or two more attempts will connect without having to reduce the connection speed. You better be on an unlimited data plan. Amazing how much information is streamed. DIGITAL WORK AROUND Set recording padding to 3 minutes in Orb. Get latest sage remote web interface to work. Start recording the digital stream (digital cable or HDHR) through sage. Wait three minutes. Connect via Orb and browse to the sage folder that has the recording program file. Open the file (orb allows you to timeshift) Enjoy! Last edited by doncote0; 09-21-2009 at 02:19 PM. |

I'd be all over this if only Orb could handle on-the-fly-transcoding of .ts files from the HD-PVR

.ts files
How many digital tuners do you have? If you do only have ones that create .ts files, you can have sage convert it before using orb (but that doesn't help with live tv).
I am not familiar with the .ts files, I admit. The HDHR gives me mpeg-ps files that orb has no problem with. Otherwise a low-cost digital tuner (interal or otherwise) that creates mpeg-ps or avi's might be the cheapest way for you to get there (with the work-around). FROM THE ORB WEBSITE: http://www.orb.com The general rule is that you should be able to stream in Orb: any Windows media file you can play locally on your Orb PC in mplayer2.exe. To launch mplayer2.exe on your Orb PC, click Start > Run… > type mplayer2 > OK; any Real media file you can play locally on your Orb PC in Real player. If you do not have Real player and do not want to install it on your Orb PC, you can still stream Real media files in Orb if you install the Real Alternative plug-in; any 3GP media /Quicktime file (.3gp, .mov, .qt, etc.). Orb installs a DirectShow filter which should be sufficient to decode these files, even if you do not have the Quicktime player (or iTunes) installed on your PC. If, however, you are still experiencing difficulties to stream certain 3GP media files, try them again after installing the Quicktime Alternative plug-in. Note: the Orb setup program also installs a codec pack which should enable you to stream all major file formats. Please see the Recommended Third-Party Codecs section [below], for more information. Recommended Third-Party Codecs The Orb installation provides all the codecs you need to stream in Orb. So, you don't have to install any, except for the following: Real Alternative codec - download and install this codec if you want to stream Real media files (RAM, RA, RM, etc.) but you do not have RealPlayer installed on your Orb PC. FFDshow codec - download and install this codec only if you want to enable subtitles overlay when streaming videos in Orb. Note, however, that you must first uninstall the Orb default codec, (OrbSourceFilter.ax) from your Orb PC, as follows: From your Windows desktop, click Start > Run... and type cmd in the 'Open:' box navigate to the Orb\bin folder (default location is C:\Program Files\Orb Networks\Orb\bin) unregister the OrbSourceFilter.ax by typing regsvr32 /u OrbSourceFilter.ax and press Enter Download and install FFDshow I hope this helps someone!
