Nope, from my testing the problem only exists if you do IVTC and encode to AC3 at the same time. If you switch the audio to mp3lame then the problem goes away.

Ahhh ok... Thanks for investigating and getting to the bottom of it

Hmm, after some testing, Handbrakes AAC 5.1 doesn't sound too hot at bitrates less than the original AC3 bitrate. I think the best options are going to be either AC3 passthough, DD Pro Logic II, or both as separate audio tracks. Anyone of them would provide good A/V sync and surround sound.

I vote for AC3 passthrough then... We can do this now by replacing the /ac3 or /aac switch with /CopyAudio in the autoencode profile correct?

Nope there were a few bugs so I had to fix some of the profiles to get it working right. A fresh download should get you going.

I'm doing some tests tonight on some full episodes of Lost so we'll see how it goes.

Everything seems to be working well compression/commercial cutting wise. So far I've done about 30 shows on my server (and reclaimed about 200 GB of space!!) and not noticed any problems.

So this weekend i'll be doing an exhaustive test of the non-A/V related options to make sure they all still work and updating the STV to handle the new format.

Hey EP, have you seen this little tool? http://www.bitstreamtools.com/

Quite impressive and could be handy for commercial cutting across encoded formats.

I think I might have missed this so thought I'd ask to be sure. Has the MC Video Tools STVi been updated or are you still working out the "behind-the-scenes" stuff for it? Can hardly wait for this to be updated

Not a problem of course - just wanted to be sure I didn't miss the boat or anything.

Appreciate your work on this - I know it's in your spare time.

Thanks!

Can you use this tool through the web interface? My server is in the basement and I manage almost everything through the web. I can VNC in to the server, but ideally I'd do this just like I use the built-in transcoding now.

Seems to work fine for mpeg2 - I don't have any h.264 encoders around (my R5000 STB's are cable), but if it cuts h.264 as well as mpeg2, it would be very handy.

I finally got around to trying this out. Why is it forcing mkv files to use aac for the audio? I'd rather have it pass-through or use mp3 when the original isn't ac3.

EP is it possible add an errorlevel check like below when you create the batch file. I had some where mencoder error out and the avi was only partially encoded but it replaced the mpg. If it errors delete the avi file and cleanup.

Code:
@echo OFF
cd /D "C:\temp\Development\Development\tv2pcBins\"
start /B /belownormal /WAIT mencoder.exe -o "C:/temp/AroundtheHorn-502532-0.mpg.mencoder.compress.WorkFolder/AroundtheHorn-502532-0.2_mencoder.0.15.EncodePass_1.main.avi" -vf scale=384:-10:0:0:0.00:0.50,harddup -sws 2 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:aq=2 -channels 2 -srate 48000 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=800:threads=2:autoaspect:trellis:chroma_me:chroma_opt:hq_ac:quant_type=h263 "C:/temp/AroundtheHorn-502532-0.mpg" 2>"C:/temp/AroundtheHorn-502532-0.mpg.mencoder.compress.WorkFolder/AroundtheHorn-502532-0.2_mencoder.0.15.EncodePass_1.err.log"
set encodeerror=%ERRORLEVEL%
if %encodeerror% EQU 0 echo Done > "C:\temp\AroundtheHorn-502532-0.mpg.mencoder.compress.WorkFolder\AroundtheHorn-502532-0.2_mencoder.0.15.EncodePass_1.done"
if %encodeerror% NEQ 0 echo Done > "C:\temp\AroundtheHorn-502532-0.mpg.mencoder.compress.WorkFolder\AroundtheHorn-502532-0.2_mencoder.0.15.EncodePass_1.error"

It seems that the prevailing winds have been in the direction of the mediaScraper... http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...71&postcount=1

That being said, both tools are slick. I hope to have them both up & running. EP, how do you decide? (Rhetorical question)

Thanks
