Are you talking about a short delay of a second or two, or do you mean a much longer delay? There will be a very short delay between shows as SageTV ends the recording of one show and begins recording the next -- it has to build a slight recording buffer for the new show before playback can begin.

It seems to be a good 10-15 seconds.

Ouch. I can see why you might complain about that. I'll have to do some more testing to see if it ever happens here -- I don't remember it taking that long to change shows, but I don't watch live TV that often.

What happens when you simply change the channel for live tv? i.e.: type in a new channel number to go to & hit enter/OK.

OK, I did some more testing:

I found can also change the channel with the mouse wheel & the channel switch is fairly quick -- maybe a second or even less. The only problem is that playback stutters a bit for a few extra seconds (5 secs perhaps?) before clearing up. I can manually pause for a second or so & continue w/o any more stuttering.

At the end of the hour when the shows switched, it reacted almost identically to a channel change. There might have been some slight differences, but I only had 1 shot at it - about 7 minutes ago.

When normally changing the channel, it changes quickly. It's only when one recording is finishing, and another one is about to start, it seems. It didn't do this in previous versions, so I'll just do a bug report on it.

Mine paused in previous versions (anywhere from 7 to 30 seconds) and it does in the newest betas as well.

Hmmm... is there a way to adjust the size of the buffer so that a user could try and fine tune the inital delay/stutter?

I am thinking that this delay varies depending on the systems processor, harddrive speed, and amount of data on the harddrive. Just a hunch.

True, so on "slower" systems a smaller FIFO/buffer might make more sense. Although, there could be a risk of an underrun condition, which would also be undesirable. If the user could adjust the FIFO size, then that might allow it to be tuned slightly for a given system's performance..

The total demux buffer size is adjustable in the registry (its the number of buffers * buffer size). The values are at:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\Common\DSFilters\MpegDeMux\NumBuffers
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Frey Technologies\Common\DSFilters\MpegDeMux\BufferSize

Default is 65536 * 32 = 2MB

If you decrease them you'll relieve the stuttering when the file changes, but you're then more suspectible to stuttering due to disk fragmentation.

I have this problem, only with the 2.0.xx betas and I have a P4 1.8 GHz, 512MB RAM, and plenty of disk space formatted with NTFS/64k clusters. I've never messed with the buffer Narflex mentioned, but then I never did with 1.x.xx and never had the problem.

I also didn't have this kind of problem previous to the beta versions. Running with an Athlon XP 2400+, 1.5 GB DDR 2100 RAM, and 120 GB HD, in the 64K clusters.

I'm very wary of adjusting that setting, as it seems to be minor in memory usage(2MB), and I have MORE than enough memory. I really feel that this is a bug that would turn off the many more casual users.

I hope that Jeff can replicate this bug, and find a solution. Please message me for more info.

Another feature that would be great:

Font size/type and bold/italics control for different areas....would like to customize show description while playing, also show titles, etc.
