Yeah-actually running IE8 but still can't figure out the security setting. I'll load another browser.

Thanks.

See post #20. If I do an update to the gadget I will make the SageTV install directory configurable.

Ok, I'm very interested in this (as I now and than reboot my HTPC and forget to check if SageTV is recording).

I keep however stuck on"NA - Check network connection, server and settings."

I want to run this gadget on my HTPC, got SageTV service and client running, got the Sage webserver running.
What do I put in as server? Localhost? The URL is "http://localhost:8080/sage/Home".

Yes, use "localhost" for the server and 8080 for the port.

Exactly what I have done.
Server : localhost Port: 8080
User name and Password as I use it via IE
Did change nothing else, but keep getting that "Check network ..." message.

Any idea? Is there anything I can do to debut?

If it works from IE on the same PC with all the same settings then I think something else is going on here.

I see that you are in Belgium so you might need to update the gadget for your locale. Try to edit the .zip download before you install it. Rename the "en-US" folder to one appropriate for your locale ("en-BE", "nl-BE", or "fr-BE"?) and then reinstall.

Update 1.1

I posted an update to hopefully fix some of the common problems.

The gadget now gets the SageTV install location from the registry so it should be able to launch Sage or Sage Client successfully no matter where you installed it.

Internet Explorer can't handle login credentials in the URL so that is why it wasn't being launched by the gadget. I added an option to launch the web server without the login to be used with IE. You then have to input your username and password manually but should be able to save the password.

I also added an option to show channel logos in the recording schedule flyout.

Still no luck.

Have set the Server to 'localhost', the Port to '8080' and have entered as User name and Password the one I use when starting http://localhost:8080/sage/Home.

I can click the logo and start the Web Server, but selecting 'Web Server with login' does not work. So it may be related to the login?

FYI, my IE remembers the password, so when I start the Web Server by clicking on the logo, I do get immediately logon credentials filled in, ready to click OK. May that process be a problem for auto-logon?

FYI, I got English (United States) as regional settings.

That setting only affects the launching of the web server in a browser when clicking on the logo - not the functioning of the gadget itself.

I'm not sure why you can't get it to connect. Maybe try reinstalling the web server and change the port used? I am able to access this from the localhost with no problems but I don't use the default port.

Windows XP

BTW. If anyone is interested, I have been able to get this to work in Windows XP. I used this program http://lifehacker.com/5089081/instal...-sidebar-in-xp to get the sidebar into XP and the gadget works great.

Craig,

I upgraded to the newest version of the webserver v2.25 using Jetty today. Everything seems to work fine except for the Vista Sidebar Gadget. In the main window it gives me the standard warning ("NA - Check network connection, server, and settings."), but when I click on the gadget and get the flyout is shows my upcoming recordings (see attached image). I am assuming this has something to do with the new Jetty version of webserver. It was working fine previous to me upgrading the webserver. Thoughts?

Thanks.

The gadget uses the RSS feeds of the webserver so if the URL for the "current recordings" has changed it could explain why it is not working. It expects "/sage/home?xml=currrecording" - did this happen to change?

It may have. If I try http://server:8500/sage/home?xml=currrecording in my browser I get "HTTP ERROR 404." But if I capitalize the "H" in "home" to make the url http://server:8500/sage/Home?xml=currrecording I get a xml file with data on my currently on going recording. I am assuming that is what I am supposed to get. I have always used "Home" in the url as stated by the wiki installation instructions for the webserver here. Maybe the previous webserver took both "home" and "Home,"and the new one maybe only allows "Home." Is that something I can change on my end to get it working again?

Thanks.

Yes - see post 20 on how to edit the .js file and change the "CURRENT_URL" entry at the top.

I think jetty is more strict on case, so that may be why it was working before with the 'wrong' url.

Craig, thanks for the pointer. I changed the "home" to "Home" and it works great again. Thanks.

I have upgraded to the Jetty webserver and I am having problems getting the gadget to work. I did make two changes in the sage.js file changing:
Code:
var HOME_URL = "/sage/home";
var CURRENT_URL = "/sage/home?xml=currrecording";
to:
Code:
var HOME_URL = "/sage/Home";
var CURRENT_URL = "/sage/Home?xml=currrecording";
But the Now Recording says check settings. But the Recording Schedule part still works. I have changed my port to the correct setting and if I put "sageserver:8081/sage/Home?xml=currrecording" in the URL line of IE 8 then I get a valid XML file returned to me. Any reason why this should not work? The port setting must be correct to be getting the Recording Schedule screen, correct? So it is just an issue with the Current Recording query.

Did you shut down the whole sidebar and then rerun it (or reboot the PC) after changing the .js file?

I rebooted but then I realized that this PC was still running V1 rather than V1.1. I upgraded and rechanged the sage.js file. I then changed the options to my correct server, port etc. It still didn't work. So I then shut down the whole gadget bar and reopened. For some reason it hadn't retained my settings like server name, etc. I reentered all of that and now it is working! Thanks for your help!

edit - Turning off the Gadgets in Win7 RC is a major pain in the butt and requires a reboot. Hopefully that is fixed in the final version.
