If you're actually getting 48-54mbps then you're not using 802.11G. You might be using one of the proprietary extensions to 802.11G that bumps the theoretical max to 108mbps. Windows reports connections speeds for 802.11G as 48-54mbps, but maximum real-world performance is about 25mbps.

Thanks everyone. Hard wiring the server to the wireless router took care of the glitching all together. Only my client is wireless now and all is good!
