Thanks,
I guess any RF remote would work but some would work better for PVR's. Above, someone mentioned the Hauppage remote would work but I gather it doesn't have a capability to turn off the TV.

I have a side question that may need to be its own topic, but if the remote doesn't control the TV, then what happens when you use the volume buttons, does it controll the volume setting on the extender?

Thanks,
Chuck

Wow, thanks! I think that is about the easiest training advice I've taken all year

I wish all things were that easy. When you're used to having to hack everything in this field of HTPC in order to get anything to work, I guess it did not seem obvious to me to simply just try it first

Not to sound like Cpt. Obvious, but did you guys know you can go into detailed settings and program IR commands through the extender for whatever remote you want? I did that with my TV's remote.

To get back to the main menu, turn it off and turn it on was the answer I received.

I just got my HD-200's and the manual states that the remote is IR instead of RF. I was under the impression only RF remote replacements would work. Since the manual states that the remote is IR and the MCE remote is an IR, why would they just work. Are they using different commands? Oh, I did try the MCE remote and it doesn't work.

Also to mikejaner,
Can you explain the process you describe below? As far as I can tell, it doesn't describe how to do this in the manual.

Sure,
From the extender and using it's remote, go to Settings--Detailed Settings--Commands--Link Infrared/Keystroke to SageTV Command. Select the command you want to program, then press the button on the MCE remote. For example, select "Play" Then hit play on the MCE remote. You will then get a dialog that says something like "succesfully mapped to play command" etc.....

As a tip, you can put down the Extender remote after you have mapped at least "Up", "Down", and "Select". You can then finish the mapping with the MCE remote.

You mean that all of us crying about no support for the MCE remote on the extenders were just missing this. I did sort of wonder what those link infrared menu items were for.....

If this works I'll have to buy you a beer!

I will buy a HD200 as soon as they are available again, did anyone have difficulty getting the harmony to work with it?

No issues. HD-100 and HD-200 use the same remote so there was nothing I needed to do to get the Harmony I was using on the HD-100 working with the HD-200.

This will not work on the extenders. The extenders support RC5 and the MCE Remotes are RC6.

I have verified that this does not work with the MCE Remote with the HD-200 extender.

My next question is how can I tell if a remote are RC5 or RC6?

Also, can the extenders support both IR and RF remotes?

I want a better universal remote that will work with Sage but I don't want to break the bank doing so.

Thanks,
Chuck

This post outlines what I believe to be the least expensive remote option for controlling the HD Extenders.

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...light=urc-6131

If you want to do your own programming get a JP1 cable, otherwise at a minimum UEI will add MVP codes to the remote for the cost of you shipping it to them.

I think Phillips remotes and all the Haupague remotes are R5. You could look at something like this : R5 Remote I think Amazon has this.

The extenders are strictly IR and will not support RF natively for remote control. You could use something like a Harmony 890 with their RF to IR extender for more distance or closed cabinet access.

I started using the Hauppauge remote that came with the HDPVR to control the HD200, works great and the buttons I use the most are more accessable than the button placement on the one that came with the extender.

I have been using a Harmony 676 for quite some time and it works well. The Harmony web site has the HD100 codes, the same codes work for the HD200. The model 676 is no longer offered. Harmony changes models on a regular basis. Today, either the 550 or the 360.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if these remotes have codes to make them work or do I have to map them?

Thanks for the info. Do you know where I can buy one of these Hauppage remote? I can't seem to find just the remotes on there website. Also, does this remote allow you to control your TV as well or would it just control the extender?

Thanks. Do you know which of the two models you state below matches the one you have the closest?

Hauppague remote :
Purchase remote
They're $9.95 but don't control your TV, just the extenders.
