They're $9.95 but don't control your TV, just the extenders.

Not really. Unless you want to try the other remote I mentioned in my previous post. The R5. It is a learning remote so it should work. I have never used it.

R5 doesn't learn so well.. I'd be wary of that.

Ken,
You state that the Harmony website has the codes for the HD100. I've tried to enter the HD100 into the compatiblity check tool and it doesn't show up. Do you mind to explain to me what I need to do?

Also, From the last sentence below, you imply that the Harmony 360 works with the extenders. Is that true? If so, this may be what I need but I can't see the layout. I don't understand why their site doesn't show the layout in a larger view so I can read how things are laid out by default.

To find the Harmony setup for the HD100 (or HD200) from the Logitech software:

Add a device:

Device: Media Center PC
Manufacturer: SageTV
Model: STX-HD100

The only changes I recall making were setting the Menu button to "Home" and the Exit button to "Back"

Yep. I'm using the Harmony 880 to control my HD100 (now with my HD200 as well) and that's exactly what I did to set it up. Very easy works well and controls HD Extender, HDTV and Receiver. Watch for specials and discounts on the Harmony's

I have three 550's controlling SagetTV setups. All three setups are simple with just a HDx00 and a TV.

Did you setup activities? I have one to "Watch Cable TV" and one to "Watch SageTV" on each remote. When you do it will ask you a several questions on how you want to control the activity. It will ask which input to set the TV to such as HDMI, what device should control the volume (I use the TV), what device should control the channel changes (SageTV) and several additional questions.

Then you can choose "customize buttons" for the activity. There you can make any button do whatever you want. This is where I had to assign the "Menu" button to the extenders "Home" and the "Exit" button to the extender's "Back" button".

You can also set up additonal buttons that show on the display. For example I assigned the extenders "Aspect" button to one of them.

The only issue I had to work on was setting the TV's input to HDMI for my Vizio. The Vizio takes about 12 seconds before it can see a command. I had to set a delay for that to work. You can set delays under the activities "troubleshooting" option.

When you get it all done all of the button will operate the way you want them to for an activity and you will seldom need to switch form an "Activity" to a "Device" on the remote.

You will eventually get it set up exactly the way you want it.

Rich

The Logitech software doesn't always add a pefectly set up "Device" to the "Activity", with all the same tweaks you applied in Device mode...just tweak the activity.

Thanks,
I have a general question about the harmony remotes. Do all Harmony remotes work with the HDx00 extenders? If not, what should I be looking for?

Thanks again,
Chuck

All model Harmony remotes work with the STX-100 and 200. They all pull the codebase from the same place-the Logitech website. You can also learn just about any remote you have in hand to the Harmony remotes.

Thanks for that info. Currently, I'm considering a new Harmony 550 or a refurbished Harmony 880 from Newegg. The prices only vary by about $10 so I'm considering either one. What is everyone's opinion between these two remotes. Considering that it will be controlling my HD200, I think the 880 has DVR buttons already but I'm not sure about the recertified thing.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

I've purchased other recertified items from newegg without any issues. YMMV. I have the 880, the 550, a 520 and going back to their first original model. On the 550 and the 520 I can't link any commands to the exit button. The 880 is fine. I use the 880 in the living room and handed it over to guests who use it with no issues. The wife uses the 550 and works fine for her.

From a HD200 perspective, would an 880 be better than a 550? I mean, from what I can tell of the remote layout, which isn't much by the way, I think the 880 has specific DVR type buttons which the 550 doesn't.

Thanks,
Chuck

I have three 550's and one 880. The 880 is used on my TV/SageTV/Receiver/DVD Player setup. The 550's are used for a TV/SageTV setup.

I picked up the 550's on Ebay (New) for about $60 each. I found the 880 on sale for $99 (new) on Amazon.

The 880 has a much better display with room for more buttons per displayed page. I like the fact it has a user replaceable rechargeable battery. I'm not to fond of the numeric buttons. They are spaced with no gap between them.

The 550, like the 880, DOES have the DVR buttons. It has two less buttons for the "display" entries, but it has user defineable "A" and "B" buttons. The display is poor compared to the 880. The buttons have a gap between them, which I like. I goes through four "AAA" batteries pretty quickly. I'm going to get some "AAA" rechargeables.

With both units you can have many pages for the "display" buttons.

Both will do the same thing. Being money conscience (Cheap!) if I had known I could have found new 550's on Ebay for ~$60, I would have not purchased the 880. It would have helped with the WAF if all the the remotes were the same.

Do these have a more powerful IR emitter than the remote that comes with the HD100/HD200? My biggest problem is the HD100 not always seeing my keypresses. (and yes, I have a late model, with the "good" faceplate).

Thanks,
Drew

You can get the 550 new for $49.99 regularly. CC or BB just had them at this price, but I've picked up several from PC Richards & Son's. If you don't find them on that site, be sure to check back on the weekend. They seem to sell them at that price Fri-Mon most times. Strange I know, but true. I even called the toll free number inquiring about them and that is what I was told from the sales rep.

EDIT - there are none listed currently, but check back this weekend. I suspect they'll have more for $49.99

I don't think so. I haven't done any extensive measuring but I have used both from time to time and they both work to about the same distances.

Actually, I noticed a drastic improvement in IR reception on my HD100 when I switched to a Harmony remote. With the Harmony, I can point it just about in any direction and the HD100 still picks it up.

I concur with the Harmony. On the HD100 it worked great before the replacment faceplate. Better after.
