Where can you see how much of the heap you are using?

Thanks,
Mike

The info page in Sage shows you that.

I'm new to Sage TV. Thanks for the app. It's helping.

I'm pretty computer literate, but unfamiliar with java heap settings, so a couple of questions.

As brief as possible:

System: Core-2 2.4, 4 gig, WinXP (32) w SP3, Sage TV v7.

Sage TV is installed on the same system as Photoshop CS2. PSCS2 is far more important to me (work) than sage.

Note: I would never run sage and PS together.

Questions about the registry app and the java size settings it changes:

- if the java size is increased, is this memory that is allocated at system boot so that less memory will be available for photoshop?

- if sage is run, ended, and photoshop started without a system reboot, will memory have been allocated by sage and not released that will not be available to photoshop? i.e., after running sage, should the system be rebooted to ensure all memory is available?

thanks and regards,
-Dan

The heap setting is a maximum value, in most cases Sage will consume much less ram.

and sage gives it back to the os when you shutdown sage (service if running on the same computer)

It should give it back when it's no longer required as well (w/o stopping the service).

Giving it back when the process stops is a function of the OS.

Thanks for the replies.

So as I understand it, if I boot the system and never run sage to begin with, no ram will be allocated by the JH settings, correct?

correct... and if you run sage and then close it the operating system will/should reclaim the ram used by sagetv

I ran this app, and while it enabled me to raise my heap value, now I have the added function of a command prompt window opening when my HTPC boots, runs some code, and then just sits there.
Any idea how to get rid of this, or, uninstall whatever SageTV Registry Settings installed?
thanks

Found this utility - thanks. Is there any documentation or reference to what these tweaks do and how to decide what values to enter?

Mouse over the textboxes/checkboxes and the tooltip will tell you what I know about the setting.

Having trouble with placeshifter shutting down on a Win7 desktop. I believe it is a java heap issue. When I'm navigating around SageTV via the placeshifter, PS just shuts down completely. This didn't start happening until I upgraded to v7, 6 mos ago.

Currently, when I look at the SageTV system info page via placeshifter, I see:

305mb used / 389mb total / 389mb max

This PC is running Win7 with 4gb of RAM and is not my Sagetv server.

Question: Do I install this utility & make java heap size adjustments on this PC with the placeshifter problem or on the server?

The server for sure, shouldn't hurt to run it on the client too but I don't expect that it will matter much.

Installed the utility on the server and set heap size at 768MB and will be testing placeshifter on client PC. Thanx much for your help!

I have the utility set the registry to 768 but the client system info shows xxx/xxx/389.

Does this mean that the client just doesn't need more than 389mb?

You need to run it on the client too.
