Both MVPs no longer boot
Why oh why did I touch it.
I decided to disable my server and run sagetv client only and then reenabled the server. Now neither MVP will boot. I've tried disabling net nanny and firewall, stopping and starting server and sagetv service and deleting the client properties files. No joy. Can anyone help please Michael Code:

So when you plug in or turn on your MVPs, what happens on screen on your TV? How far in the boot process do they get? Have you plugged something else into the same network port like a laptop just to make sure it's not a network problem?

Server contacted
Loading application SageTV spash screen - "Sage Media Center starting up" waits for a bit screen flickers SageTV spash screen - "Sage Media Center starting up" (this time there is ghosting on the image) and so on each time the ghosted image gets further apart. Michael |

The log seems to indicate that something is taking the socket away from SageTV and it is no longer able to communicate with the extender from that point on. I don't know if it's a socket problem on the server side or the MVP side. If you haven't tried already, unplug the MVPs for a few minutes (unplug ALL cables from the back of the MVPs), then hook it all back up, and plug them back in. While you are waiting for a few minutes, it might also help to restart your DHCP server (router, cable/dsl modem, etc), power cycle any network switches, and reboot the SageTV Server machine.
Some other thoughts....In the SageTV Detailed Setup->Server section, do you have both 'SageTV Server' and 'Media Extender and Placeshifter Server' enabled? Have you done anything with your java installation recently? In the Windows Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, is there more than one Java Runtime install? If so, shut down all java apps (SageTV, Web Feed Encoder, etc) and uninstall all but the the most recent Java Runtime, or better yet, uninstall all Java and reinstall from java.com.

Thanks for all suggestions - many of which I tried!
An upgrade to NetNanny software looks like being the cause of the problem. I added Sage as an excluded application and the problem has gone away. Michael |

Hi,
I have netnanny 6.5 too I notice in the area marked Family settings. There is "Exceptions". And in their "Application exceptions" I have: java.exe sagetv.exe sagetvservice.exe Also there is... stvsmltvimport.exe vlc.exe xmltvimporter for sagetv.exe which are particular to my setup. Hope this helps. Michael |
