SageTV HD Theater review at MPCClub

Here it is; quite favorable I must say:
http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21671

Now I understand why latest betas focus on standalone feature: the Sage team was working with the reviewer to please him

Not really just him. A few others including cat6man have been pushing requests for the standalone/media player side of things.

Customer requests drive fixes/addons and there have just been a lot more requests in the past few months on the standalone side of things.

It was a really good review though wasn't it. I totally agree that music and photos need some attention on both the standalone AND the SageTV core...

Anyone catch that bit in there about the next extender having built in storage? Could have just been the reviewer wishing but it was sure worded like he mentioned it to Sage and they gave him the heads up

HDMI 1.3 and ability to drop in an internal drive would be very nice indeed...

Problem files to test with

Did you guys also read the reaction thread to the review? Very positive in general (thanks to some members here too); I just wanted to alert Sage upon the two files one of the folks there wanted us with HD-200 to test.
I've also tested them, and I found my HD-200 stuttering on both: basketball clip had very heavy stutter, and the other one had some stutter on birds scene.
I'm running the extender mode though; I was hoping that this way it would work better, but it did not... Is something wrong with the files? Maybe someone from Sage could test it?
Here is the original request:
Quote:
Can someone please test these two files on the SageTV?

1) Basketball 1080p 60fps
http://files.getdropbox.com/u/132004...010000kbps.mkv

2) from pole to pole 16ref sample
http://files.getdropbox.com/u/132004...mple_16ref.mkv

How laggy is the playback and how much pixelation is there if there is any?

I took a quick look at those.

The first file contains 1080p60 which is not supported by the hardware decoder (I don't know any which support that). Since there is currently almost no content encoded this way I don't think this should matter.

For the second file we do support 16 reference frames but that sample is encoded with unrealistic settings which cause the decoder to run slightly behind in that bird scene. Once it is too much out of sync it doesn't have any other choice but to drop a frame and that's where you see the small stutter.

Thanks!
Good to know it's not a problem in Sage after all.
