So, this may have been answered before, but I didn't see anything outright. . .

I'm a little bit overwhelmed by the MyMovies pricing structure.

Can anyone give me an idea of what will be necessary to enjoy all of the features of the coming plugin?

$100 for everything seems pretty steep to me.

Thanks,
Chris

So far as I understand; it doesn't have to cost anything... All you need is collection management and that is completely free. You can earn points by contributing but you are not required to. Points can be purchased too... If you're diligent I suppose you could contribute more than enough to offset any monetary outgo.

Plucky can correct me; but I think that if you're after fanart and such you can still use BMT/Phoenix for that and not worry about utilizing MyMovies for their fanart backgrounds.

So basically you can get by just fine with collection management and that's it.

Your close

MyMovies fetches the metadata and covers free without any points required. You could then use BMT if you wanted for Backgrounds (this may not make it in the initial release but I am trying to make sure it does). You cannot get posters without points from mymovies. I think the max amount of points needed for posters and backgrounds is like 1250 but I am not positive on that need to double check. As Rems said contributing is easy and highly suggested if you do it enough your points will grow fairly rapidly. The points above that are more for the WHS extra features their addin has.

cheers

Should mention that contributing can only be done for missing data, and in many cases the movies are 100% contributed by the time you get to it. So it is "easy" to contribute data but whether you even get the chance to is another issue.

True but with new movies (I usually get within the first couple of days) then most of the time the data is missing.

For those of us who DON'T get movies in the first couple days, I think $100 for all features is out of line, if that's actually how it will work.

I have contributed quite a bit. I often buy Blu-ray movies to replace my older DVD copy. Things like The Music Man, Easy Rider, Gigi, The Man Who Fell to Earth, An American In Paris and on and on.

Good movies but not always too popular so I may be the only contributor that has that particular disc.

Collection Manager is FREE. And gives you cover art, description, actors etc. The only thing you don't get for free is the backdrop. There will be other ways to get those.

Then don't buy the points!!! I don't care I am not making any money of this hobby anyways. If you think the price is out of line I am not the person to take it up with and as stated above the most points you need for Fanart is 1000 points as per this page

http://www.mymovies.dk/how-to/writte...iring%20Points

The other points needed related to their Media center UI (not relevant here) and their collection manager.

If you have WHS $100 is fair for the features of automatic disc ripping it adds in my opinion but if it doesn't suit your fancy then look elsewhere.

Yeah, I have been on the other side of that where generally any Blu Rays I purchase are more well known, so by the time I load up almost everything if not everything has already been contributed to. I already have 2,500 points so no big deal, but seems like it can get cutthroat on new releases, especially popular releases. Also doesn't help that some countries get a movie released on dvd earlier then other countries ( i know there were some titles released in Europe before they hit the states)

And for $20 (US) you can get backdrops in 720p (500 points). $20 is not a lot to pay to use MMCM. A lot of work has gone into it and it works so very well.

Then you can take your time and contribute when possible until you get up to the 1000 points needed for the 1080p backdrops.

Lol Plucky. Down Boy!

The people that bug me are the people that sit there and before they even own it, they start a profile for a new release. They add whatever they can find on the internet and throw it on there, whether it is right or wrong.

Just my 2 cents.

That sounds much more reasonable.

Thanks for clarifying everyone.

Best,
Chris

And keep and mind the greatest resolution you are going to get right now on a hd200 extender is 1024x576 so 720p is more than enough.

These days I do most of my Sage viewing on my iMac client which is 2560x1440.

I gave up on my extender (HD100) a ways back because I could never really get the audio sync right.

All that being said, 720p content still looks great at a normal viewing distance, so that $20 investment will most likely be just fine by me.

And remember it won't be necessary once BMT/Phoenix support is added by me or you can also grab your own as well

I believe you could use YAMMM or MCM as well to gather the 1080p backdrops (both free programs)

Doing the best I can without dynamic menus

Main Menu 1

Main Menu 2

Main Menu 3

No dynamic menu by any means but allows for a good deal of customization of what you want seen in the mymovies portion of the main menu. You can also change the default action to whatever you want when clicking on my movies.

I paid the $20 bucks for 500 points to get the 720p backdrops.

You can always just make contributions and get points for free.
