That's weird. I only use 3G during the work week and have never had any problems. Perhaps a firewall / port forwarding problem? (Did it work over wifi when you weren't on the local network?)

Sage says that they are working on updates to the transcoder, so hopefully any issues will be resolved in one of the next beta updates. Once the transcoder is fixed, a Sage official app may almost be moot, since Sage can drop Ipad friendly versions of favorites in a directory automatically and AirVideo can stream them without any work.

four confirmed license purchases right here...

$30 is a bit steep for a mobile platform, but if it transcodes seemlessly and could offer remote controls I would buy it.

HTML5 with embed video would be awesome, but probably wouldn't drive sales.

I think they should just publish the placeshifter protocol, and let the community develop a multitude of clients. The placeshifter licensing is handled on the server, so it would simply use a standard placeshifter license.

Is anyone developing anything for the ipad/ipod/iphone? I know there has been massive amounts of talk, but I've yet to see anyone say they are in the process of developing an app.

It shouldn't be too hard - there is an App called AirVideo that streams video from your PC or Mac to the iPhone/iPad and it uses some server software that you must install on your home PC/Mac. For playback it uses the iDevice video player, just like all other apps with video playback.

The way that I see it is that there are three pieces - the server piece (which is already running on your Sage server), the video player (which exists on your iDevice) and the client front-end.

All that we need is the client front end and even that kind of partially exists with the Sage Mobile Web app. If you could somehow modify this so that clicking on a media file would start the iDevice video player then we are in business. Unfortunately I am not a developer.

The best workaround I've come across is the SlingPlayer app. Just hook a slinbgbox to an hd-100/200/300 and go, but the cost is very high just to use it on an iphone/ipod touch/ipad/android/blackberry. It is supposed to work though.

In my opinion, for it to be done right - it needs to be developed by SageTV. Cause I want placeshifter ability as part of the apps...

But it is just not very elegant to take a computer video file, decode it to analog video, play the analog video and then encode to a computer video file to stream to from your LAN. The only reason that you are doing all of this is that you can get a Sling app for your handheld.

That would be the best solution by far. But other than video streaming you can do most of the other stuff using the web or mobile web Sage apps. And Air Video works fine for me for my video library, it just really chokes on my TV folder with hundreds of files.

But having all of this in a Placeshifter app would be the ne plus ultra.

Not ideal of course, but it works. I think a remote desktop app that is linked to a client would also work. Will be interesting to try once I get an iPhone.

I wouldn't go that far, but I did look into the iOS software development... Since I don't own a Mac, which is required for iOS development, I haven't been able to try to do anything with it. Someone volunteered to give me access to a Mac (through LogMeIn) about 2 months ago, but so far has been too busy to actually set it up...

You would be the person I was thinking of, but if you don't have a mac then that could be a problem. Too bad we won't know about an official app until it releases...if it releases...

Found this on Gizmodo. Looks like apple relaxed their guidelines for apps. Gizmodo said that you can develop on Windows computers now. So good news for us.

I have that type of setup on my iPad, but it's not the same as a native app. Screen sizes are different and the UI isn't very smooth through the remote server app. I thought I'd use it more after installing it, but I really have only used it once or twice. Ironically, it's the SageTV UI that is the most difficult to use through the remote server software...

I am using Libox to stream video, music and pictures to my iPhone by downloading their app via the App Store (Andriod app coming soon). The best part is that it is Free!

What makes this more unique than other tools of the sort is that it has a social aspect - share media with friends. The tool actually creates a P2P network between your box and anyone connected to it - cannot download or alter content, just play media. Very interesting.... They also advertise that video is delivered in HD quality, same as source. I've used it mostly on my phone, and not on a browser, so I'm not surea bout that. I also didn't have to configure anything to get it working and streaming - the only downside is that it lacks any configuration options really, like assigning port numbers, etc. Certainly work a try.

I just want to throw my support for an iPad or any kind of iDevice native Placeshifter type SageTV app for viewing my media.
