First I tried setting this up at my HPTC Sage Client and got INVALID when I tried to validate the install.

Then I loaded at my WHS, same problem. I've confirmed my IP, user name, and password to access HS by logging in from my office computer with the same IP 192.168.1.94.

Questions: Will loading the Sage v7 plugin at both Sage WHS and Sage Client cause a problem? Does Homeseer have to be running in "Service" mode?
First things first, I believe I have found what is wrong with the multiple Sage listings showing up in the HomeSeer configuration page. Please try the following:
  • Go to the InControl configuration page (http://<homeseer server>/InControl_Sage_config)
  • Click Delete on each one, hit F5 between delete, as sometimes the page does not refresh. Repeat for all of them.
  • On Sage go to the Advanced in Detailed Setup and enable the Debug Log
  • Close Sage
  • Unzip this zip into your JARs directory, it should extract InControl_1.0.10.jar into the JARs directory
  • Manually delete InControl_1.0.8.jar from the JARs directory.
  • Start Sage
  • Then check the Sage log (in the SageTV\SageTV directory), it should have a set of lines starting with "InControl" in them that will also show the User ID and Password Sage is sending to HomeSeer. Please let me know what those look like for you.
  • You may also want to go back to HomeSeer to make sure one and only 1 SageServer is listed.

Thanks, let me know how it goes.

Hi

I have been able to get it to work from my laptop to my server and I really like what I see. I tried version 1.0.10. I tried it from an hd-200 extender however and it would not take. I got invalid when trying to validate the username/password settings. It also seems to boot my laptop when I try to validate it from my extender.

My server is running server 2000 and both homeseer and my sage server are running on it. Sage is running as a service.

I also tried to run it via the client on my server, it would not work and ended up adding multiple entries in the client list.

By the way, as I said, from what I saw of it working on my laptop, I really like it. I have already purchased it in anticipation of it working.

Thanks

Kent

PS I have just found that while I can't get it to validate from an extender, if I set it up with the proper settings, then start up my laptops sage client, the extender suddenly gets the device info from the server and is able to control devices. Hope that helps

All,

I have updated the version to 1.1.0 in an attempt to eliminate the validation issues in different environments. Please see this post for more information.

Be sure to update BOTH the HomeSeer and SageTV plugins to version 1.1.0.

Please continue to provide the great feedback!!

Michael

With version 1.1.10 installed on both sage and homeseer, I can no longer get it to take the username and password. It will validate the port settings but not the username/password

In HomeSeer, can you go to the InControl configuration, set the log level to 4then restart Sage. Try performing the validate again on userid and password and then check the HomeSeer Log. You should see entries for "User ID" and "Password". Then let me know if you are seeing the correct ID/Password there.

Thanks!

Actually, one more thing to try -- If you are running Sage as a service and then starting the sage UI on the same PC, I believe the problem is that the Sage Service and the Sage client are both trying to use the same port, try this.
  • Start the Sage Service
  • Go to HomeSeer and the InControl configuration. Scroll to the bottom and click "Delete All", this will clear out any out of date entries
  • Start the Sage Client (connecting to the Service)
  • Go to "Control" off of the main menu
  • At the "InControl Server Settings" screen, make sure the host name is correct and change the "Sage Receive Port" to 10992
  • Click Close
  • Exit and restart the Sage Client (connecting to the Sage Service). I will add an alert to Sage, to let folks know that they have to restart Sage if the Sage Receive Port is changed.
When you click back on Control, see if now it says "Server Settings: VALID". If it does, not complete the user id/password verification.

That fixed it for me. Just started setting up Homeseer lighting control. So far this looks like what the doctor ordered. Simple enough interface that the wife can use while watching TV to control lighting without yelling at the kids or getting up to turn off kitchen and dining room lights. I like the lighting DIM feature. That will work well when sitting down to watch a great movie and dimming the lights for "mood" control.

Looks like I'll be buying this one ($30 seems a reasonable charge for this plugin) when the trial has ended and all is working as it should. I like the layout better than the original MS Media Center plugin that I tested years ago.

Looking forward to get my "garage door open monitor and open/close control" back up and running and added to SageUI "Control" list.

Now if I can just wangle a Homeseer controlled door opener/closer to let the dog out, I'm done.

Good work Lamanmi!!!

Hi Lamanmi.

I still can't get anything to work. The only time the I can ever get the server settings to say valid is if I have the sage client running on my laptop and start homeseer. As homeseer goes through its startup, the server settings on my laptop change from invalid to valid. From then on if I click to validate it stays valid. If I exit sage and restart it on my latop, it goes back to invalid, and wont go valid again until I stop Homeseer and start it up again.

Aside from that I can no longer get it to ever accept the username/password

Thanks

Kent

Very sorry to hear this. Have you tried clearing all the settings and started from scratch....this FAQ walks through that. Also, if you can do me a favor and turn on the Log Settings to 4 in InControl on the HomeSeer server, and enable the log on Sage and send those to me, that will help a great deal in debugging the issue.

Finally if all else fails, I am targeting a new release over the next week or so which will have some validation to identify when the "listener" does not start up properly on Sage or HomeSeer, which is most likely what is happening here.

Thanks,
Michael

OK, I'm about to give up. I've tried everything listed here, but I still can't get HomeSeer and SageTV to talk to each other...

Moskus, are Sage/HS on the same PC?

I had some connection issues and went and found the sage.properties files for my server app as well as the client .properties file and manually edited the IP address, username, etc. in the lamandsoft/ section. Also, make sure in the HS plugin the IP address is set correctly. I originally had the LAN address and it wasn't working and changed to 127.0.0.1 and it worked!

Not sure if this is a problem, but what "Web User" level do you need your password to be assigned in Homeseer setup? I have mine set to "Local/Admin" and I'm using the IP address of the PC that is running Homeseer. Mine is working great with this setup.

Yes, it's on the same computer.

Ah! I tried "localhost", but I'll try "127.0.0.1" too!

My user account is "Local/Admin" too, and Sage and HS is running on the same machine, using IP 192.168.0.10.

Moskus, just a hunch, but try editing the sage.properties file lamansoft section manually. I think what may be happening is because you are using an extender, your config changes are being saved to the client properties file for your extender but the plugin is reading from the sage.properties file for some of the data. Just a guess.

FYI, I have gotten this to work with 127.0.0.1, the IP name of my HS PC and the LAN IP address. I haven't tried localhost. Let me know if any of this helps.

Hint: Shut down SageTV when editing the properties files. Sage auto backsup the files and your changes may not be saved.

One other thing, can you confirm what is not working. When you validate the ip and port do you get invalid? If you get valid then is it the username/password that are invalid?

OK, here's what I've tried:
- Installed the latest updates
- Removed all settings
- Restarted HS and SageTV service
- Restarted the computer
- Disabled firewalls and antivirus
- Tried switching from port 10991 to 10992
- Tried connecting with 192.168.0.10, 127.0.0.1 and localhost

... and now I can't get a new entrance in HS, but I have to add it manually. However, that works, and I can send messages from HS to SageTV. But not the other way around.

I posted a new version that improves the connection with HomeSeer. You need to update the plugins in both HomeSeer and Sage. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

By the way, version 1.2.0 allows you to customize the text of the button that appears on the HomeSeer web pages. Let me know how it works for you. It is in the InControl Settings.

That worked beautifully!

But I've now upgraded both the Sage plugin and the HS plugin. The new interface is slick, I only see an option to enter the HS IP/name computer. But it still tells me it's invalid...

The new interface, will walk you through one step at a time until all settings are correct, this way we can identify and correct an issue before worrying about other issues.

I do have one thing to try first...if you have a firewall running on your Homeseer computer, try disabling it and then try the process again.

Outside of that I will need some more information to further troubleshoot this one. Can you do the following:
  • If you are running Sage as a service, stop it temporarily and then start Sage on the main server
  • Turn on Debugging in Sage (Detailed Setup/Advanced/Debug Logging), you will need to restart Sage
  • Turn on Debugging in HomeSeer (go to http://<homeseer>/InControl_Sage_config, enter 3 and click Save Settings)
  • Enter the HomeSeer name or ip address (make sure you can ping what ever you enter - if you need help doing that just let me know).
  • Send me both logs (HomeSeer.LOG and sagetv_0.txt)

Thanks....
