DTS-MA to DTS
I am new to sage (thinking of converting from BTV) and I can't get BD rips with DTS-MA to send the "core" to my receiver which is hooked up via optical and can't do DTS-MA but can do DTS. I am using an iso rip and the same file plays fine in PowerDVD9 which came with my burner. In fact on the info screen in PowerDVD I can see it is detected as DTS-MA but the output is DTS compressed. Somehow the software "knows". I am guessing because I picked SPDIF as the output and you can't output DTS-MA on SPDIF AFAIK. So anyway is there a similar checkbox or something in sage? I played with the codecs, ac3filter, and other audio settings but can't seem to get it to work. The receiver either does nothing or skips and goes in and out. I am not really interested with re-encoding my files to AC3 or DTS. At this point if sage can't do it I would rather it just launch PowerDVD and play there if that is possible. I posted this in the sage7 beta forums because like I said I am only using 7 and have no experience with v6 and what it can and can't do.
Thanks. |

We were just discussing this internally on Friday and will be adding it soon so you can enable/disable hd audio and use the core streams instead.

AFAIK, your trial will be extended when you install the new beta version. So that shouldn't be an issue.

Not sure, if this is the same issue as described in this thread (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?p=440220), but you could temporarely try the listed registry modification (which requires e.g. a splitter like Haali)

I am not sure it is the same issue. That post was a month old and I think I have a newer build with the fix. I think this issue for me is that it is passing hd audio(dts-ma) to the receiver that can only handle DTS. Sounds like the fix of enabling/disabling hd/core will do the trick.
Thanks. |

Jeff, while you guys are looking into tweaking the stream selection, any chance you could toy around with setting up some sort of client capabilities options? It seems it would make sense to let you choose what formats your particular client supports, so it can automatically select the proper types. This, i would think, could ultimately lead to selective transcoding for those 'more limited' clients.

I installed version 0.20. I still can't get DTS to play when DTS-MA is the only track on the rip. Maybe I misinterpreted what is supposed to happen. I assumed if there was a DTS-MA track you could leave it and since that new option is set to disabled DTS would play. I had some issues with DTS playback on 0.17 and 0.18. The newest version seems to have cleared that up so I am back to where I was with 0.16.

I ripped my IROBOT BD. I believe the track to be there because PowerDVD plays audio on the same iso.

Can you play any other DTS videos from in sage? you may have a codec issue.

If I use eac3to or whatever it is to convert DTS-HD/MA to DTS it will play....wouldn't on version 0.17 or 0.18 (I submitted a bug and a file) but now it will.

Even with "HD Audio" disabled, it is selected during playback as default...and you get no sound. If you bring up the currently playing file options, you can go to "Audio Language" and select "#2 AC3 5.1" (or DTS) and you will get audio...but I always get a foreign language. WMP does the same thing, so it isn't just Sage.

you have to use hdmi for higher level audio.. optical can not do the higher audio. too much data and it needs to 10gb bandwidth

No offense meant but I already knew that. My question I guess is now whether Sage intended me to be able to pick different audio streams from the menu (not what I thought they were doing) or can it "strip" the DTS-MA/HD audio down to the core and send that to my receiver the way PowerDVD and Arcsoft do.

As it stands, I have to add an AC3 track into DTSHDMA BRs so it will play on the extender in the bedroom. But then I have to go into the menus and select the DTSHDMA track manually if I watch it in the basement. Having the two extenders always preference one or the other, regardless of which audio track is 1st or 2nd, would eliminate that... ...Or a person could have the option of sage automatically transcoding the DTSHDMA to AC3 on the fly, thereby eliminating the need to add the secondary AC3 track... ![]() -Suntan |

Also, the new HDAudio or CoreAudio setting is a per-client setting, so you CAN have some output the DTS-MA, and others output the DTS Core... but there is no way to have it decode the DTS and output AC3.. well, not on an extender...
