Granted we used a hack to get it to even work with sage (as fuzzy pointed out) so we can't be all that picky, but this shouldn't be this hard.

EDIT: Because of this issue I am considering converting a blu-ray with vc-1 to mkv to see what happens with an alternate splitter. yay something to do when I get home...
What plugins do have problems with? I've a bunch of plugins loaded, but haven't seen a problem related to playback. And if you use an old enough version of Arcsoft, which exposes it's filters to other dshow applications, then it's not really a hack, if you use those...

Regarding mkv, Sage is using it's internal splitter by default, which you can indeed disable and use e.g. Haali for mkv. So that would probably allow using the MPC decoder. But what I've seen is that disabling the Sage demuxer on the other hand can cause problems in other areas (e.g. for online videos)

The problem isn't the plugins themselves it is the arcsoft decoder. If I use any other decoder (ffdshow, DMO, or even the mpc decoder) it works, but isn't smooth. Some plugins cause the video to pause at the beginning and they don't continue, but this isn't the case with all plugins. I've been working with sage support to resolve the issue. for some reason it is causing a win32 failure in the player.cpp (i think that is the line).

Here is a really old TMT 2 decoder that works. I installed on Win7 and checked it with DSFM...DXVA1 and 2 are checked and HD-PVR files use very little CPU.

Polypro - Thanks a lot for sharing this. So do we just put this in the Arcsoft Codec Folder. Do we get rid of the old one first, or I guess this will just autamically replace the original one since it has the same name. Any other changes to make.

I'll let you know how it works on our XP machine.

Thanks again.

Thanks for that. I had tmt2 installed, but tmt3 didn't like that. I'll give this a go when I get home.

I just went ahead and installed the old Codec from Polypro. This one works and the setting 'sticks' in Arcsoft Properties using GraphStudio. Interestingly it has both DXVA 10 & 20 checked even though XP can only use 10. Tried to make it just DXVA 10 but only both boxes checked will stick.

Anyway it makes a big difference. We have gone from full max at 100% on HD to about 75%. A big difference is that any command from the remote now registers almost immediately. Before it would take 20-30 seconds to register! In other words it was previously just barely working.

Only problem now is with the CPU at 75% the fan on this old Dell is quite loud - it gets louder as CPU usage increases. Since the HTPC is in our home theater room that's not very acceptable. So it may be time to finally do an upgrade to a newer computer.

In any case this a made a huge difference and I'm sure on a more modern computer would be very good - so thanks a whole lot polypro!

You already figured it out, but you can put it anywhere. Then unregister the current ASVid.ax...then register the new one. You may need to reboot...I was never really sure if that is needed for DirectShow to pick it up, or not.

Thanks Polypro. I didn't unregister and reregister. But I did put it in the same location as the old one. When you register something does it put some information from within the file, or just the file name and location? I have a hunch it's the latter because mine is working okay without going through those steps.

Thanks again very much for making it available!

I tried that asvid.ax you provided and it doesn't like vc-1 at all. Using the one that came with tmt3 works great until I start installing plugins. As of right now I have sagetv .21 with smm, and playon installed and all files playback perfectly.

I have a problem with VC1 using TMT3 .185 decoders...I sent the logs to Qian. It may be .21.

P

Edit: There is a new MpegDemux posted in the "So VC1 Is Fixed?" thread. It fixes the crash to desktop. I am watching a VC1 BD right now, with the TMT 3 codec, and CPU is from 5%-12%. For me, I have a 100% Blu-ray solution right now. Also, I noticed the MS WMVideo DMO likes to hang around as you swap codecs in Sage (a right click on the ffdshow icon will show you the filter chain). I wasn't getting DXVA with VC1 and saw the MS codec in the chain, grayed out. I shut down the Sage UI and restarted. I played the file again and the MS filter was gone and I was getting DXVA. Just an FYI.
