That information is already listed. Have you been to the system requirements page?

http://www.sagetv.com/requirements.html?sageSub=tv

I'm not sure how much more information than that would be needed...

I think the difference between what was requested and what sagetv lists, is that that what SageTV lists is the hardware "they" support. So, lets say that I buy the new kool TV2012NG tuner, and it's not listed in the sagetv "supported" hardware, but I was able to get it working... I could add the entry to a hardware database with some instructions on what needed to be done, or indicate that it "just worked". Hardware databases, in many cases, are community driven and contain much more hardware than was is "suppprted" by the company selling the product. (at least that's how I interpreted the post).

FWIW, I agree too. the official list would be those tuners that are organically supported and tested under various conditions. The additional ones that are community-listed may only partially work, or require hacks/kludges to get them going. Or maybe they just haven't been tested yet.

Nevertheless, I think that a wiki where the community really contributes information such as this would be invaluable.

That is exactly the kinds of content that would make for a great fit on the wiki, so long as it is designated between tuners that are officially supported and ones that are able to work. There's currently a page denoting the officially supported tuners, perhaps make a section of "Unofficially Supported TV Tuners" and note the level of compatibility?

Yea that's what I meant..

My problem was most tuners I came across weren't listed on the official support page but were mentioned in the forums as working with sage, either partially or fully.

I'd just like to see it all in one place with as much information as possible. Everything about Sage has been great. The only issue for me has been choosing a card because of this problem..

I was actually thinking about setting up my own database on my blog and hoping the community would come in on it... then I found this forum post

The building blocks for it have been started, but since the nature of a wiki is to have multiple people working on it, we'd love to have some help in getting things fleshed out ahead of the new site's launch.

Just to reiterate - this is a bare-bones version of the Wiki and needs a lot more content, but this has a lot of potential to be a great resource.

So is this blog going to be a 2011 thing?

SageTV is saving up for a SuperBowl commercial. Now THAT would be an awsome SB commercial!

Haha... we're working on it, guys.

It's been a long process, but things are coming together, and we should have an update for things really soon.

My wish is detailed instructions for new users to follow on how to install some of the plugins that use fanart.

I see all these pretty pictures of sagetv using pictures to represent the tv shows people have recorded and yet when I install the plugins , my sage tv setup does not show the fanart like in the posted pictures.

Also when trying to read up on the plugins , they tend to link to 4 or 5 older threads that are no longer relevant in how to set up the new plugin.

In example I tried playing with TVExplorer tonight since the screenshot looked so nice but after I installed it, I recorded an episode of frasier in hopes it would automatically pull the art after it recorded a show and no such luck.

It would be great if I could just install the plugin and have it work as I am sure if I am having problems getting these cool fanart plugins to work that other new users are as well. Or at least have a small write up on what to do after the plugin is installed to make it look like the pictures that are posted with the plugins.

I know if there was a tutorial or step by step installation of one fanart plugin I could follow that I could probably install others like it with no problem.

Trallyus

P.S. figured it out finally I think.

I'd suggest reading the bmt user guide, since that will the be key to getting most other fanart plugins working. A Fanart plugins is a plugin that "knows" about fanart, but but very few (if any) actually fetch the artwork themselves, but rather, they rely on other plugins (primarily bmt) to do the actual fetching. I think that most people are aware of this when installing fanart plugins, but maybe plugin devs could do a better job of making this clear for new users, since most plugins depend on the APIs that resolve and show fanart, but none, to my knowledge, actually depend on the plugin that actually fetches it.

Thanks Stuckless,
Basically after much tinkering last night I installed the phoenix fanart plugin and the BMT plugin as well as the diamond winter theme red. After that I setup the plugins so they were not interfering with the squeezebox server and then logged in to BMT and grabbed the fanart and renamed the banners to match the show they were for.

I assume this is what has to be done to get it working as the banners are working for me now. Also I am bookmarking the BMT guide so I can read it later.

I appreciate your help,
Trallyus

That sounds about right, except for the renaming part. YOu shouldn't need to rename any files, since bmt will download posters, banners and backgrounds and add them to the Phoenix fanart area.

Sounds like I need to read the bmt manual as it does not seem to work unless I rename the banners to the show name.

Anybody heard anything other than crickets chirping regarding the 'official blog'?

Pity this died, see the original poster hasn't been online since late January

People contributed some good ideas to the thread so surprised nothing came of it

Seems like Dontstaylong was an appropriate name!

Yeah, I guess really soon is a relative statement.

I could be wrong but I don't think this idea is dead. Matter of fact I'm pretty sure some similar/related web "things" for SageTV are being done by "dontstaylong"
for instance the Wiki page he mentioned in this post is live and continues to have content added

Hey guys,

Sorry for the absence, and yeah, I totally get the irony of my name choice, haha. It's been a long process, but we've been working on the update to the site and things are moving along. We'll let you know as soon as there is more news, which should be coming very soon!
