Drivers?
It sounds like you've tried all the easy things, maybe Sage support can find out what's going on here. This almost sound network related, or some device is going into 'power save' mode. I had that problem going from XP to Vista, my home weather station would do odd things.
I see you run Unraid, but if there were an issue with that I'm sure others would have seen it. If this were me, I'd go to the Mobo manufacturers web page and see if there is a newer BIOS or drivers for Win7. Probably best to check Hauppauge and Silicondust, get everything up to date. (I just looked and see I am behind one version in firmware on my HDHomerun). I always remove power to my extenders after every upgrade, then bring them up one by one. If there is a Beta firmware upgrade I install it then... Hope you find a fix soon, Larry |

Thanks...
I was thinking the same thing with the mobo drivers. I didnt' check it out, but did use all the windows 7 x64 compatible drivers for everything...so hauppauge cards, NEWEST HDHR drivers from website All drivers i let windows take care of. I didnt' download any specific drivers outside of the HDHR ones i mentioned above. I dont' think it is a network issue, unless i suppose it could be an issue with the network driver installed by windows 7 |

After installing all windows updates I am back to the same sluggish ui. IT has to be a driver or something that windows is installing. As part of the updates it fired off the java 6u22 update.
After all windows update were completed i check to make sure my bios were up to date, and I'm good on that front. I dunno what else to do here. Im seriously considering bombing back to windows XP where everything was working flawlessly. ~Pix64 *Im going to try removing 6u22 and go back to what comes with sage 6u14 i think and see if that makes a difference. Another thing we have in common the HVR 2250. I've been unimpressed with it from day 1 and would trash it in a minute if I found a better card that handled two analog inputs from a single coax.

Yeah it worked well for me in XP, but I just removed it for now from the system.. i have NO addon cards in the system at this point....nothing... just drives, mobo, cpu, ram...thats it.
*java is back to basic install from sage...lets see what happens. |

Well removing 6u22 def seems to have helped. I notice sluggish menus now when going from top level down to another top level on the main screen so for example
Tv -> Video everything else seems to be WAY better than it was. still not 100% right but DEF way better. At least to the point where i can deal with it for now....i think When video is playing in the background and i hit home so the video stays in the background and i get the menu overlay its really sluggish just like before. This has to be a java and 64 bit windows issue... I am goign to try this 64bit java 6u22 update i found online to see what happens. Last edited by PiX64; 11-28-2010 at 11:52 AM. |

Im 99% positive this is a JAVA related issue on my machine. I am currently running the stock 6u10 that comes with and it is leaps and bounds better than anything i have experienced in win 7 as of yet. I have my wiz bin loaded back in, and I have my recording directories back in place....so im heistant to try the 6u22 64 bit update....

tmiranda,
now i have my recording directories back in place, and I am seeing the really sluggish behavior you were talking about ....i wonder if this is a directory thing in win7 or if it has something to do with the wiz.bin and the locations stored in the wiz.bin. Im thinking about clearing my recording directorie(s) formatting the drives, and then moving the files back....WITHOUT the comskip files for now to see if it helps. *64 bit java didn't seem to do much. reverting back to default sage cause that has been best performance so far. interesting.....
So i reverted back to 6u10 that comes with sage, and removed all of my recording directories, for now using the default inside of sage. Everything seems to be working properly. some menus a little slugish, but nothing i can't deal with for now. I am moving all of my recordings around so that I can reformat the drives, and start from scratch.. Ill let ya know how that goes. |

Question: did you disable WMC in Windows 7? I have heard it is not necessary, but I wonder if that is causing the problem.

Yup I disabled windows media center as well as defender. I'm pretty sure it's a java issue. Windows xp is installing now :-/
I was pretty stoked about win 7 64 bit cause I immedietly noticed a decrease in system ram usage when running all 3 extenders, and it seemed as though win 7. Cleaned up after itself and freed the ram after shutting down an extended unlike xp Oh well. That's what I get for messing with a perfectly good stable working 100% system for 2.5 hrs. :-/ Not gonna lie though I'm sure I'll give win 7 another go sometime soon. |

For what it's worth, I'm running a freshly built Win 7 machine and it's perfect - none of the sluggishness in the extenders like you are seeing. However, I am running the 32 bit version. After reading this whole thread, my suspicion is that your problem has to do with using 64 bit Win 7. There really isn't too much of a reason to run a 64 bit O/S, unless you need massive amounts of memory, and there are lots of reasons not to - the primary one being driver incompatibilities, which is what I suspect you are suffering from. I have also read plenty of other posts with people quite happy with Win 7.

Well so far i have reverted to xp pro sp3, restored my wiz.bin and enabled all 3 of my recording directories with all of my old recordings.
running java 6u10 as of right now, only because the wife wanted to watch some tv. I know before i started this whole Win 7 fiasco i was running 6u22 without any problems. Earlier in this thread someone suggested that some of the slow downs could have something to do with the commskip files (.edl, .incommercial, .txt) (btw, how do you tell comskip to only generate one of these not all???) and there being to many files in that directory. While that seems possible, in my opinion a java issues seems most likely. If ya think about it, the JVM running on the server is what is being used by the extenders right, so slow ui response should in theory be directly related to the JAva......maybe not i dunno for sure, but at this point in time with all i went through yesterday and today it seems to make the most sense :-D All i know is that win xp pro sp3 with AVG, squeezebox server, playon, sage 7, and a slew of plugins is working like a champ for me again! Good luck to you!!! Maybe when you get a second you can try a few things 1) Revert java to older version and see if that helps 2) remove your recording directories, leaving the wiz.bin of course 3) make a backup of the wiz.bin and try starting from scratch with a fresh wiz.bin just some things i would try if i were you. ~PiX64 |

I still think the problem is a driver issue on his motherboard, probably for the ethernet controller. A cheap PCIe ethernet card from Ebay may fix that problem. Heck, this is football season, I understand the need to go back to XP for a while to get Sage working again Sooner or later he'll have to get this working on Win7, the most stable OS Microsoft ever came up with. Never thought I would ever use the words 'stable' and Microsoft' in the same sentence! Larry |

It could have certainly been a driver issue, but i was using all windows certified drivers which were installed by windows 7... I suppose the network driver as you mentioned makes sense, but you would think if it was a network driver issue i would have seen issues with other aspects of the system like downloading programing 100+ MB, downloading windows updates, etc...
I will def try win 7 again, i just need to be able to revert back to win xp without reinstalling everything from scratch. This go around i used clonezilla....and that woudl have been all well and fine if the image i created on a seperate partition wasn't corrupted |

Was experiencing some odd network behavior again and went in to look at some things. Well i noticed that there is a network connection installed called
Microsoft TV/Video Connection.... I did some reserach on this and this is apparently spyware/malware which hijacks your network traffic and casues your network to become unresponsive and act like a 56kbps modem. those that are having ui issues which may be due to network slowdown, check to see if this is installed.... http://forums.cnet.com/7723-6142_102-361329.html Not sure if i got hit with this in win 7 or not, but its a def. possiblity |
