Does nobody do searches, read the FAQ/manual, or check the community site anymore?(just kidding) I'm always glad to see someone interested in using CC in Sage. So many people(like Jere_Jones) worked hard to get it added in some form.
Check out this post in the FAQ. It's got a file attached that has mpg2srt version 3. The post also explains the various(basically 3) ways to use CC and where to get VSfilter(not really needed by most setups anymore). Almost all the custom STVs added Malore's CC code, so VSfilter isn't need when using one of those STVs. Also the unofficial CC support(see your Sage manual in your SageTV dir) in Sage is excellent and basically always works(this assumes your PVR card and recording profile support embedded CC). I'd suggest using SageTV's unofficial CC support unless you have a good reason not too.ie your video decoder doesn't work with Sage's CC(unlikely), you want CC displayed on your PVR350's TVout(good reason to use mp2srt and STV mods) Hope that helps.

Is this method still only an option with the pvr 250/350? Or can this work with other tuners??

To my knowledge it is. Currently CC is being displayed by using the data embedded in the mpg2 stream/file. This embedding is a function of the drivers, so it's up to the manufacturers to add it for this method to work. From what I understand this embbedded format is just an adaption of a method used for DVDs, so it's nothing really widely out of spec.
Personally I feel Jeff should add support(it seems possible) for Sage to dump(either to SMI(prefeferable IMHO) or some special Sage format) the CC data from the VBI pin of a capture card's driver. This dumping would take place at the time of recording as that's the only time this pin exposes the desired data. We need Sage to do it since it is the app controling the PVR card/driver. Since this pin exists on almost(all?) all HW cature cards, this would allow CC to be supported on these cards. So if you don't have a card that works(basically anything other than a PVR250 or PVR350) with this method... I'd contact it's manufacturer and ask for them to add it to the drivers(Personally I see no excuse for Hauppauge not putting this in all their card's drivers). Also I'd contact Jeff via Bug(it's sort of a bug) report and let Frey know how you feel. The more people who do this the more likely things are to change. But this is just my personal opinion.

Thanks for the info.... by the way, since we all use Abriviations on this form (CS,CC,LOL) it makes it hard to search for suff since you need a min of 3 letters. Trust me, I search, I live on this form (1:30am Sat and I'm playing with my HTPC, I have no life )
Thanks

I'm was being totally honest when I said was was joking, so no worries. That character limit for searches can be a pain in the but.
As for the no life part... I don't know what you're talking about. It's perfectly normal, eh yeh... perfectly normal for me to be up and doing this. Actually the wife just went to sleep so I decided to check in real fast, before I checked out too. Best of luck and I hope you get Comskip working exactly the way you want(I just cam from that thread).
