Yes, both are SageTV Clients... But an extender is basically run from the SageTV server (and thus configured from sage.properties), while a software client is running in its own little word (and own sageclient.properties).

I am still stuck on enabling the extender in sage.properties. Even when running sagetv not in service mode and exiting the changes are not saved. I have no idea what I am doing wrong.

It sounds like you aren't really exiting. Are you sure Sage isnt' going to 'sleep' in the taskbar?

There is no sagetv service running in task manager, there is no sagetv icon in the taskbar, I have tried stopping sagetvservice using sagetvservicecontrol, I have tried every permutation of options I can think of, and it still is not working.

Its really weird, because I was able to edit it to enable the server easily.

Really strange. At that point, I'd say just wait for SageTCPServer 1.8.8 to be released, as that won't be an issue anymore.

The announcement of the google purchase was quite a "oh, crap" moment. I just blankly stared at the screen for a minute.

Then it occured to me (with all the previous arguement back and forth we had) I am now REALLY glad I didn't base my whole house media distribution on Sage, and instead have it making a smaller portion of the equation.

When something else comes out, I'll buy 1 of whatever it is, plug it into my matrix switch, reprogram my remotes and carry on.

18 months later and reading that Google Fiber is where SageTV went. When I look at the technology what do I see? A tablet being used to control what an extender does. Hmm, If only I thought of that. It seems everyone was right, creating a "play to extender" option wasn't very high on the list for SageTV development; It was their future.
