HD-PVR has a whole slew of other problems as have been well documented. As far as dumping SageTV, I don't think any other DVR supports the R5000.

Let me say this doesn't happen a lot to me, and it isn't necessarily with "long" records like Rob has the problem with. I use the External Apps plugin to run VideoReDo on a recording if this ever happens, only takes a few minutes and it's done.

I would say 95% (or more) of my recordings with the R5000 have no problems.

I have an HD-PVR. Mine is a piece of junk. At least with the R5000 I get the recordings that I schedule.

It is only live sports that are the problem (and where the 20% applies). Anything else can be fixed because it is being watched next day and not just slightly time delayed. I just can't watch sports the next day. It is no fun after I find out the final score.

.
Just for reference R5000 can be used in WMC as well using a third party application and works well.

I'll gladly take the HD-PVR off your hand. I don't know what it is that I'm doing right or just being lucky, but the HD-PVR has been as good as the HDHR in my experience.

I record way too much sports in NBA and NFL reason, might change this year if both sports go on lockouts. But I'm with you, if I know the score, then I won't bother watching it unless it is an exceptional game. Sports are the only shows I want to watch live or slightly delayed to pass forward commercials.

I'm about to give up on HD with Sage, used with a Cable Set Top Box.
I spend scads of hours trying to get it on par with what Sage 6 was with standard def TV.

I thought HD was working, but after a week or so of scheduled recordings, it's still not reliable and I'm not sure I can convince myself to dig into it yet again.

Curiously, I've had no problems with the HD-PVR recording or locking up.

The two latest issues are
1. Recurring issue where the channel changing stops working. The USB-UIRT isn't getting commands from Sage - LED on it isn't blinking when it should, even doing watch live TV and changing channels. If I stop the Sage 7 service, then restart it, the USB-UIRT resumes working. It's not a hardware issue. All I know to try now is to put the USB-UIRT on a root USB port that's on a PCI bus card. But that's another wild guess. I guess I can start more diagnosis with Sage logs. But if it has a problem with the USB-UIRT link, why would it press on and record the wrong show. I suspect the problem is back to back favorites - something goes wrong and the USB-UIRT driver/interface to Sage is inoperable until Sage Service is restarted. Just a guess. I'm REALLY tire of troubleshooting.

2. Infrequently, the cable Set TOp Box pops up a "Push Any Button To See This Show". This may be related to switched digital. Not sure. The resultant recording is that pop-up over top of the wrong channel. Somehow their DVR doesn't get into this situation.

Sigh.
meanwhile, the (free in the bundle) CableCo DVR is working OK and Sage is being ignored by the family; In the SD era, 80% of TV watching was via Sage. If I ever get Sage reliable, I wonder if I can re-recruit them to Sage?

I had the same problems with the USB-UIRT. It was working fine for a while and then one day start to act up and started changing to the wrong channel or not sending commands at all. I ditched the IR method and tried the serial cable method and that worked perfectly. Not all STB has serial port, but they are required to have a firewire port. So later on after I switched to FIOS, I tried the firewire channel changing method and that has been working flawlessly ever since.

I wish I could find a cookbook on how to try firewire to my STB. I don't know if TimeWarner has disabled that along with eSATA. I've spent a lot of time scanning this forum looking for a how-to on firewire for channel changing. All I've found is Sage v2,3 era old, and/or anecdotal. I know there's no universal approach but all I've found is rambling. My box is a Samsung non-DVR.

I need a solution now; some say USB-UIRT can be reliable. I have to bail out Sage for HD if I can't solve this promptly.

I used this guide to set up my firewire.
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=157

However, I don't use ExeMultiTuner anymore, I now use FWChannelPRoxy
http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/down...do=file&id=303

Basically, you need to get the firewire setup for the STB, and then when you start the instruction for ExeMultiTurner, then you follow the instructions for FWChannelProxy.

Hope that helps.

This seems seriously off-topic.

Yeah sage - dvb-t2 tuners still don't work in the UK

Have you any intention of fixing that ?

( or are you just rolling around in piles of cash excited because you won't ever have to answer another retarded support request )

CORRECTION: dvb-t2 tuners DO work with sage tv. However UK freeview HD EPG (over the air) is encoded/compressed.

sorry genuinely wasn't working until OS re-install

DVB-T2 tuners were never supported from the start so no fixing to be done, that's an enhancement request.

(And believe the PCTV nanoStick does work)
