Just wondering what I'm missing... what's the point of encoding in DD5.1 if you're only getting stereo input?

Isn't it like recording a mono stream in stereo???

No the DD encoding is done on playback. When you use this feature, when you play something, the stereo sound (what was recorded) is expanded to 5.1 by AC3Filter (like Dolby Prologic/Circle Surround/etc.) and then that 5.1 is encoded to DD by AC3Filter and sent out the S/PDIF and decoded by your reciever. Basically it's a software version of the on-the-fly DD encoding available on nForce2 Soundstorm motherboards.

I thought it was cool because I like AC3Filter's 5.1 expansion better than DPL on my Yamaha reciever.
