Yes Really
There are NOT tons of DVBViewer posts here in the board. Tons would be shown by "The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search". That will probably never happen.
Congrats on your 127 different references. You now have more references than "porn" (50), but less than "school" (stopped counting at 300), less than "yahoo" (262) and less than mythtv (stopped counting at 300). Even BeyondTV is over 300 which I guess you could call a lot for something that no longer exists. Quote:
How many of you guys are signing into this account to post responses anyway? You are obviously not the same person that posted earlier. Either that or the translation method "was displeased' with you in earlier posts. Quote:

While you are there, why don't you put in SageTV and check the trends? Virtually all PVR programs got smacked in the face due to the digital conversion, but do you see that large jump increase in 2011 to the present? Cool. DVBViewer is not even in the top 10 for any category for anything even remotely related to North America. Quote:

This is a SageTV users forum.

Do you let people mouth off about anything you care about and say nothing? I usually do, until I've heard enough. Being a Sith penguin, I am sure you can understand wanting to swat that annoying fly out of the air with a light saber, DaiTengu. I care about SageTV, I care about this forum and the SageTV-using members. I do not care about DVBViewer. Now that I have an idea where that DVBViewer posting comes from, I would say that my opininon is changing from "not caring about" to "having no respect for" DVBViewer. |

I will stay until I can find something better. The pieces are in place to run SageTV as is for a very long time. Right now I have a very solid HD setup that covers 6 screens. I will wait for a clear direction on the future of GoogleTV and see what that brings.
I have MCE and Xbox360 hanging off my current SageTV server. (Had it for years). It does not deleiver what Sage does. I setup NextPVR and MediaPortal over the weekend just to see where they were at and it will be awhile before they get to where I am today with SageTV. I will continue to look around but will not move until I can get a better solution. I think the leading contender will be MediaPortal with XBMC as the front end. The Apple TV2 with XBMC may even work as an extender but the current MPEG2 problems make that questionable at this point.

I setup Mediaportal and NPVR as well and Mediaportal was easier to setup for me, I had a hard time getting the guide data to populate for it as I could not figure it out.
As for NPVR I had a heck of a time with that until I installed AC3Filter as up until I did that I had no sound. Love NPVR's way of populating the guide with data from the tuners themselves One thing I did not like was when watching CoolTV on live tv with NPVR , it would end up getting out of sync or cutting out when playing the videos. I guess I am used to sage tv and am pampered but I tend to stick it out until Google and Narflex get a new product out the door hopefully and then if the price is right and there is a one time fee , I'll probably update to what ever they have in plan If worse comes to worse and they make sage go away completely, I will probably go with Windows Media Center as I set that up in the past and had no problems with it that I can remember. Not sure if I can use it to stream my recordings to the upstairs computer but if need be I will look in to it. Never did get an email from sage tv saying they were bought by google yet like others received so I am still waiting for the email others got unless they wrote narflex and got them. |

Thanks Graywolf. I did not see that post as it's hard to keep up with all the posts flying on the board since the buyout

A uPNP player does not an extender make
A point of clarification for those who may need it. I use my extenders for quite a bit more than just playing back content. When someone can show me a unit that does everything that SageTV does in an extender and is available to consumers, please let me know.

I've spent the day talking to a friend of mine who has a Ceton card and uses WMC. He's convinced me to give WMC a shot again.
I've finally narrowed down the most important features I need for a HTPC setup, and that's recording TV, cutting out/skipping commercials, compressing/converting it, and dumping it into a folder named for the show/season. WMC does not do this, but apparently there are other programs that do which will then tell WMC where the file has been moved to or whatever. I'm going to spend this weekend playing around with it. Weekends are now my "what else is out there" days |

I think that when our guide data stops (the only reason to leave sage IMHO) the mediaportal/xbmc setup will be the way to go. From what I can see XBMC offers pretty much everything that sage does with the exception of PVR functionality. They are working on it, and in a year or so I hope it will work well. I can't see myself ever going back to a STB for PVR use. Never.

The centralized server PVR with extenders/clients was and is the only feature I truly care about. The rest is just icing to me. No PVR, no go. S |

I bought some cheap refurbed pcs and put new gpu in them to use as client pc's. I installed windows media center 7 of them and starting to play with wmc. I fairly new to the htpc set up and had sagetv for about 4 months. So far it seems with my set up I can do mostly everything we did with sagetv. We only watch ota and movie collection on server.

I use 3 HDx00 extenders on my setup, and I have cable, but I only use SageTv for its PVR functionality. Because my cable company marks nearly all channels 'copy once', the Ceton won't work for my Sage setup. I have one HDPVR that works great, but I can't see myself springing for another 2 or 3 of them and also paying the STB rental fees. For that reason I have been thinking about WMC and Xboxes for extenders ever since Ceton became available.
I realize that Xboxes aren't ideal (big, ugly and fans), but I've read that newer Xboxes are much quieter than the old ones. Assuming that's true, and I'm only using the PVR functionality, can I get some feedback to point out the downside (if any) to moving to WMC with the Ceton quad tuner?

The 360 slim was pretty quiet. You can hear the fan whisper but when there is any sound coming from tv you will not hear it. |

So, with WMC 7, is it really the case that there aren't any competent extenders aside from the Xbox 360? Is nothing at parity with the the 360 feature wise?
I took a look around, but didn't find a clear answer... Last edited by Tomahawk51; 06-30-2011 at 01:32 PM. Reason: correction |

I hope that the PVR aspect of another software will fill the gap sage will leave when we can't get epg data anymore. I hope that it will be the "future" sage software from google, but only time will tell.

At this point we would have to build client pc's for every room or use xbmc on an atv2 (with no mpeg2 support so it isn't really a good extender).

It's not a matter of features or parity, there are no other extenders period. All of the other WMC extenders are long since discontinued.
