sagetv v7.1.9 and haali
hi,
been using this for a while and quite pleased but having problems with the odd mkv with 1080p and dts / dts-ma in it. the default sage demux (strmdemux.ax) seems to only load proper filters when it feels like it. rendering the same files in media player/graphedit or any other directshow works fine. your supposed to be able to disable the standard demux using the registry, but it doesn't work. as it is, i'm having to resort to playing troublesome files externally. not really what i want :-/ i think when the strmdemux.ax parses the file its loading acm etc because it doesnt like something... please help |

hi, can you see that its actually using gabest though, like via a try icon?
ffdshow usually lists all involved filters too... no matter what i do, that sage tv demux is always involved :-/ |

Did you set the enablestreamdemux key to 0 in the registry? The way to tell is to look at the log file and it will tell you what was in the playback graph.

I'll have to get back with you when I get home. Be sure you are viewing the sage_client log file. Keep in mind that merit in dshow matters when using external splitters.

ok got that log working.
sage is still using its own splitter/demux no matter what i do. i found that for my mkv with dts it said no can do for ac3filter for dts. shark007 had it disabled, so fixed that. but then tried an mkv with dts-ma and it tried using ffdshow which made mess of it. i have the same dts-ma movie in an m2ts and thats ok. just coming back to the splitter, demux again. sage wont let me use haali or gabest. |

ffdshow is quite capable of all audio, but with dts in mkv, the sage demux only wants ac3filter???

seeing sage wont let me use directshow to demux etc, it appears sage is hard coded to only allow ac3filter to play dts etc.
is this right? |

Not at all. I use ffdshow for everything audio related. I've got some .mkv's with dts-hd tracks I'll play when I get home and show you what to look for in the log. Or better yet, just post one here and I'll look at it.

this issue is defintely not related to my files.
it seems no matter what, sage will not let go off strmdemux.ax, always uses it, and that demux always wwants to use ac3filter regardless of directshow. i'm thinking of uninstalling this an trying again. its so annoyinng. thanks for your input though |

I had your problem after I installed Shark007. No matter what I did SageTV used its own splitter. I re-installed Win7x64 again and SKIPPED the Shark007 codec and was back to what I had before I installed it. I will NOT install a codec pack again they have proven to me to be a bad idea. I did have to do the registry setting. But I currently have Haali, FFDShow, installed and working great. I was originally using the Microsoft decoders instead of FFDShow but was getting fades to black on some Colossus recordings - but NOT all - so I changed to FFDShow for both H264, VC1 and audio now.

i always prefer minimal installs.
but you saying shark has some prevented sagetv from using an external splitter? i dont wanna uninstall.... but all i need is ac3filter and ffdshow audio. think i use monogram too. i could a sworn sage was responsible for constantly trying to use strmdemux.ax :-// |

I have no idea. I thought it would be SageTV as well but I tried uninstalling and re-installing SageTV and nothing worked until I re-installed the OS. I had no problems until I installed the Shark007 codec pack. I am now back to what I had before the codec pack install.

wish i knew what it was, doing my head in.
weird how every other directshow player outside sage respects the merit system |

All codec packs have done for me is give me problems. Only install what you need. Ffdshow and the splitters of your choice is usually all you need. If you have an nvidia based video card the LAV CUVID decoders work perfectly with sage. I'd skip the LAV filters (audio decoder, splitter, etc.) because sage doesn't like them. I've never had one of those prevent sage from NOT using it's splitter. If you have the registry settings correct sage shouldn't be able to use it's splitter.

unless you can tell me i'm changing the wrong registry key, then yes i've set enabledemux to 0.
wish i knew it was the right place, as its supposed to be in HKLM and not this virtualstore location. wonder, does this relate to running sage as service or standalone? i'm almost certain sage isn't even trying to use use whatever directshow splitter is available. currently done all reg tweaks and haali is set to highest preferred |
