HD300 having problem passing DTS master HD

I just got a new preamp (integra DHC 80.2). Now my old pre amp couldn't play dts master hd, just dts.

So every time I play a movie that's ripped with a dts master hd track the audio drops off.

I have the hd300 audio output set to use HDMI 1.3 bit stream and that's when it drops off.

When I set the hd300 to use the one labeled "digital bitstream", I just get plain DTS, not the master hd DTS.

Can i get DTS master HD out of the "digital Bitstream" or do I need to use the "HSMI 1.3 HS bitstream"

How can I tell the HD300 to use the optical port for audio instead of the hdmi connection?

Any thoughts would be great. I'm at a lose.

I don't have a Bluray player so I will borrow one tomorrow to test if it drops on that.

So, anyone else seeing this problem?

Does anyone have their hd300 passing dts master hd with no problems?

I opened a case with support, but not sure how that will go.

It's been inconsistent on passing HD audio. I never dug into it enough to come up with a specific reason why some titles work and others don't. Several people have reported it to sage and they have never quite gotten it fixed though there is some variations depending on which firmware you are running.

You cant use the optical port for bitstream HD audio. The specs for optical do not have enough bandwidth. HDMI only.

If a title doesn't work your best bet is to let sage decode the audio instead of your receiver. It seems to do a good job of it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply.

you say to let Sage decode the audio instead of the receiver.

Can sage decode dts master hd?

If so, how do I set sage to do that?

Thanks again

Yes. boot up the HD 300 and go into the setup menus before the HD 300 connects to the server. In the audio setup there is a Digital Bitstream and a HD bitstream option. Try the first one. If you have trouble finding it let me know and I will reboot one of mine and write better instructions. This option keeps the digital audio to the receiver but Sage will decode the HD formats before passing it along.

Ahh, this I have tried. But it doesn't pass the DTS master hd audio, just the plain DTS. I only get dts master hd from the 1.3 bitstream.

that's correct. The only mode that will pass HD audio is the HDMI 1.3 HD option. If it doesn't work, your only option is to let Sage decode and down mix. Unfortunately it's buggy. Some claim that the last non-beta firmware release fixed most of their HD audio issues. That was not my experience so I am running the latest beta firmware. You might try switching firmware if you haven't.

I have flawless dts-HD playback using beta firmware 20110114. I had repeated dropouts using the latest beta, and I dont like the stable firmware because the menu is lower resolution.

phillyfan1138, thank you for mentioning the firmware. that looks to be the issue. I've been banging my head against the wall all week on this.

lol.. yeah....not the best movie. I would have liked to see it "finished". It ended just like Independence Day.

At least now the HD audio stays on.

I have been having this DTS-HD for a while using the latest beta firmware (20110506 0, I think) and recently discovered this thread. I tried the 20110114 firmware as suggested in this thread and it did fix DTS-HD on my "problem" movies. However, it also seems to be skipping some video frames on "native" playback of any resolution (1080p, 1080i, 720p, etc.). This makes the video a little jerky.

For now, I've reverted back to the last non-beta firmware (20101007 0, I think), which has a smooth picture and DTS-HD works, but the lower resolution of the UI (especially with Phoenix) is very annoying.

Has anyone else noticed these issues? Is there a firmware version that fixes the DTS-HD issue, has a smooth picture, and has the higher UI resolution? Thanks!

I've tried 20101022, 20101029, 20101122 and 20101209 and none of them worked well for me with DTSHD. Some of them worked for most of my DTSHD movies but none worked for all.

I ended up going back to the 20101007.

EDIT: I had some issues with things other than the DTSHD with the 20110114 firmware, but can't remember what they were.

I'm using the latest beta firmware and when sometimes the BR ripping has problems in the DTS-HD audio playback, I then perform the ripping in two steps:

1) Using tsMuxer do not generate the BR directly, but make a M2TS muxing first
2) Now remux to the final BR disk with a default 5 minutes auto chapter generation.

This procedure fixed all my DTS-HD audio problems, it also fixed some similar Dolby TRUE-HD dropouts (the latest I recall was Transformers - Dark Of The Moon) as well

I have an HD100, and am not seeing these "bitstream" type audio settings mentioned above in the extender settings. Does the HD100 not do DD 5.1 over hdmi?

Reason I ask, is this HD100 has been hooked up via optical and did DD 5.1 just fine...but I just upgraded by AVR and went to HDMI for the audio out on my HD100...and it is only putting out 2ch stereo.

Any thoughts?
