Will I be able to at least "see" my recordings from the new MVP-HD?

Am I correct that even if I got the boxee, I would still need client licences to use the Boxee? And with no more licences available, now what? WinTV?

No, because Boxxee is not a client to SageTV

Yes you could see the recordings if the folder is shared. And you could play them. You just won't get the SageUI or other functions of Sage (EPG, control of favorites, etc.) on the MVP-HD. It just becomes another player on your network.

As stated above Boxee isn't a Sage client. Boxee does it magic through the Sage jetty server and SageX api's (plugins for SageTV 7) and lots of programming code. So no license required.

Ok, Gerry. I think I got it.

Since no client licences are available any more, one has to use someone that does not use the SageTV Client software (which include your own self built computer, right?).

So the only thing right now that is an effective HD200 or HD300 look alike is the Boxee Box OR a PC client running Boxee software.

But again to repeat myself, I could build all the Mini-itx systems I want with the SageTV client and they would not work because of licence needs.

Placeshifter? That need a licence with Version 7? I go out of town fairly often, am I out of luck?

PC Client-you need a license.
Placeshifter-you need a license. Now technically you only need one license. You could load placeshifter on 10 PCs if you wanted. But only 1 can connect at a time. (It is connection based.)
HD100-you need a placeshifter license. Same rules as above.
HD200-built-in license
HD300-built-in license
Boxee box hardware-no license required. Need Sage v7 server, Sage jetty server (plug-in), Sagex APIs (plugin-installed with jetty) (Sage v6 may also work with appropriate plugins. Untested)
Boxee Box software (PC)-no license required. Need Sage v7 server, Sage jetty server (plug-in), Sagex APIs (plugin-installed with jetty) (Sage v6 may also work with appropriate plugins. Untested)

Sage jetty server (plug-in), Sagex APIs (plugin)
Small FYI: When you install the sagex-services plugin, the Jetty web server plugin is also installed automatically for you.

Good to know. I didn't think it was a dependency before. I've updated the post above.

Thanks, I install the SageTV server on the 21 day cycle (which is not fun contrary to davefanboy's frequent posts) and that is one less step.

Placeshifter......crap, I sure hope they open up something for that. I really, really need one of those licences now.

Here is a thought, can I leave my version 5 sageserver (and placeshifter licences) going just for out of town viewing of the things I would like to watch and have a version 7 Sage server running with boxee boxes and/or boxee PC clients on my HDTV's running on the same network?

Looks like that is the only way I will be able to enjoy SageTV out on the road.....

You can just upgrade your v5 server to v7 and be good to go. client and placeshifter licenses are version-free. Only the server needed to be upgraded, though check the sticky'd post in the SageTV Software forum for a relaxed version of the v7.1.9 server that will work with v5 or v6 licenses.

Fuzzy, thank you thank you thank you!!!

That is the best news I have had all month. I will have to start searching the forum for all the "upgrade" methods and what not. I was under the impression that I would have to uninstall my old version then install the upgrade version. I know I will have to save a couple of files here and there and have a month or so to line everything up before I undertake this epic event.

I do me epic, because SageTV has been so absolutely stable, trouble free, and magical for the whole family basically since 2005. I was and still it the best piece of software I have ever purchased.

And thanks to you and others here in the forum who have alot more time and knowledge than me, Sage continues to be the best program out there.

Thanks again,

Bob E.
