1. Is there a way to get the music player in SageTV to use ID tags for song name, track number, band name, etc. instead of file names? Like iTunes does? The ripping software I've used adds a bunch of stuff like band name and song number to the file name which pushes the song name way out to the right and I'm unable to see it on the SageTV music player screen. (was a problem in v6 too). I've since found out that the file format in the ripper is customizable but I really don't want to go back and re-rip a bunch of CDs if SageTV can just used the embedded ID tags.

I think I have this figured out: I have always viewed music in the SageTV music player in folder format, which follows the file structure I have the music organized with in my NAS box. So as a result, SageTV reads the .mp3 file names instead of the ID tags.

However, when I switch the SageTV music player view to one of the tag views like albums, artists, genre, or years, the music player shows just the tags and is a much more polished look. I still prefer the folder view because its easier to sort through. I have a bunch of compilation and tribute CDs and using artist view shows many, many more items to scroll through. iTunes handles this well where you can tie multiple artists to a single album and limit the viewable items from say 12, to 1.

That's a discrepancy between using Artist, and Album Artist (which are different ID3 tags). Album artist on the compilation discs SHOULD be Various Artists, while artist may be different for each track. I thought sage had fixed this years ago to use album artist, but I honestly don't use sage's music functionality any more, so I can't say for sure.
