Maybe we can find some hardware or software correlation between our setups? My server's configuration is in the 1st post of the thread. Any similarities? I do have the VM's across 3 disks, though. I'll post those details either tonight or tomorrow, as well as the rest of the hardware in my network.

Running SageTV server on Windows 2003 R2 server with hardware raid (adaptec).

Has worked like a champ until just recently. I may have taken a new java version recently (jre 7 r25). Will rollback and see if that fixes it....

Maybe java versions is what is in common.

Sorry the time synch fix didn't apply to your problems, but it has resolved mine completely.

Again, the sagetv extenders get time from the server... So there is no "time synch problem" possible - right?

Also my software client are in a windows domain so they get the time synced automatically.

In both cases the time is in sync with the server...

What am I missing?

You could try removing plugins and see if the problem goes away on a base install. Then add in plugins until the problem returns.

I just moved all my recording and import directories to a NAS/raid and the spinning circle at playback stopping immediately appeared. I'm not sure what is going on either but I'd love a fix! (we seem to have non-local media in common...)

+1 using unraid for older recordings and videos / movie rips and when I stop playing anything movies or tv I get spinning circle. Not sure of java version but I think it is old - on purpose.

I've just learned to live with it. Kinda stinks. I have three different sources in my guide OTA, cable card, and hd-pavers with directv. I thought the concatenation of all these sources was somehow screwing up my guide info and the sage server couldn't handle it.

My server is an ssd windows 7 some i7 quad core proc with a local raid array for recordings that are less than a month old. The machine is a beast and runs very well but I have noticed this slow down with hd300's and a woefully inadequate client I need to toss in the trash. Hope this help.

Neil

Agreed on the NAS. I'm using FlexRAID, but I'm quite certain I added a drive as a standalone recording folder and still had the issue accessing it via UNC. I'm running the latest Java version on both server and client.

If definitely sounds like we have a network bottleneck somewhere. Does anyone else have XP in the mix someplace or is everyone using Windows Vista or better? For me, the Sage service is on an XP VM, while FlexRAID is running under a Windows 7 (64-bit) VM and the client PC is also on W7/64. The firewall on XP is turned off, but both W7's have it turned on. I think I'll try turning off the firewalls, since I'm running pfSense, anyhow. We should also probably look at NIC settings.

My server/main client is win7 (and th only place I've noticed the delay). I have an MVP extender and a win7 client who don't seem to be affected (will test).

I noticed CPU use and sb/nb temps went up after the nas was implemented so I've ordered an intel NIC to replace my onboard NIC, we'll see how that works out later this week.

I don't run xp at all unraid is Linux and server is windows 7. Clients are hd300's.

All network is gigabit but obviously the hd300's don't have gigabit interfaces. Not sure it is network related however unraid spins drives down and up to save power.

Good to know. That might rule out XP as the culprit.

Hmm... I'll have to find out if there's a way to disable spindown under ESXi and see if that might be the issue. That's a pretty good lead to follow, though.

Have y'all tried disabling IPv6 on your computers? I see all kinds of networking issues (usually lag, which is apparently fairly common) on Win7 when I have v6 enabled, and they all go away once I disable IPv6.

Might be something to look at?

It isn't networking related - it happens even on the SageTV server itself when I use the UI locally. Starts immediately but spins on stop only.
As I said before everything was working fine then suddenly started.
Also do not run IPv6 on W2003R2 server.

Rolling back a java version did not help...

Yeah this is definitely a good idea. Not sure it will fix it but I have seen IPv6 lag issues in a couple of different scenarios at work. I'll give this a try tonight.

I know it isn't 100% a networking issue (my UI is local on the server too) but it did appear immediately after I took all my storage to the NAS.

And your recordings / files being played back are local on the server also?

Local not only physically but logically as well (ie not referenced via a UNC path, but actually referenced as Y:\Recordings\* or some actual drive path...)

btl.

FWIW (and I'm sure I'm not alone here, obviously) my media files were previously all local and referenced via UNC paths, no delays. Moved them to a NAS, referenced on UNC paths, immediately got delays on stopping.

Also, I've noticed that sometimes (but not every time) if I don't wait @ the spinning circle and hit the Home button, the delay might be eliminated but I go back to the main menu and not the list of recordings.
