Well, I have a few more conjectures. One is that the HR44/500 is much different from other receivers used by DirecTV and so you have to tweak the setup to get it to work. There is an addon instruction set that allows you to automatically create a favorites list, for instance, by using the up arrow key. And the instruction set has other unique characteristics. It's also uses a self-learning remote so that the receiver and remote "talk to" one another. This is for RF mode, but I had a heckuva time getting the remote into RF mode. The conventional instructions that emphasized simultaneously pressing MUTE and SELECT did not work and after about 50 tries I noticed someone on the internet had used MUTE and ENTER instead, so tried that and it worked right away. So now I can change the tuner which is in my office from my bedroom. I think used a long HDMI cable and have almost dispensed with SageTV altogether.
However, I'm still interested in solving the problem. It might have to do with manually setting the STB Services Port to something that the EXEMultiTuner uses, or including the port assignment in the URL for HTTP, but so far that hasn't worked either. Or perhaps the HR44 just used a different instruction set completely. However, I did have the DirecTV HTTP Tuner dll working for awhile and it just stopped. They've just updated the software so perhaps I'll give in another try. Any suggestions are welcome. The HR44/500 receivers and the RC71 remotes are new tech but I imagine many more people are going to have them soon. Also, for those who already have an RF remote system the HR44/500 sets up a little differently that the others so I don't know if or how you could use these standardized problem. But buying a new RC71 remote is only about $10. |

I still need help with this.
I think I have everything set up correctly but when I try to issue a command to the box I get:

Have you checked your router's IP table to confirm that it shows the same address as the settings screen of the DirecTV STB? Also, have you an Adroid or iPad app?

Yes, it's the same. I have an Android tablet, but I'm not sure what you mean by an App? Obviously it's getting to the address, the STB is just not recognizing the command set or something. Does the 44 have a different command set?

There are DirecTV apps for Android and iPad. There's a remote function in the app. If you can control the boxes with the app then you should be able to do the same with Sage. If you cannot then there's some other problem with your network configuration ...

What I don't understand about this is that using the android app involves accessing the web through the DirctTV website, but there is nothing in the plugin that accesses the web. It's supposed to interact directly with the STB via its local address. Am I using the right app?

I could be wrong, but I don't think the app accesses the internet to do a channel change if you're locally connected ...
